Facebook, Messenger and Instagram apps come to Windows 10

Facebook announced today that it is rolling out a new version of its Instagram app for Windows 10 Mobile, as well as new Facebook and Messenger apps for Windows 10 proper.

“When we first built Instagram for Windows, we were focused on bringing the app’s core features to the Windows Phone community as quickly as possible. Today, we’re rolling out Instagram for Windows 10 Mobile with all of the community’s favorite features — including Instagram Direct, Explore and video,” said the company in a blog post.

The new Instagram app will also support live tiles, showing real-time updates on the user’s home screen. The blog post noted that the updated app will be available on the Windows Phone Store later today.

At the same time, the social network will be rolling out its new Facebook and Messenger apps for Windows 10 desktop. The new Facebook app includes desktop notifications, a live tile option, easier photo sharing, reactions and stickers.

Facebook for Windows 10 also has an in-app browser to make it easier and faster for users to read articles in their newsfeed. The live video broadcast feature is not currently available.

Messenger for Windows 10, a brand new Windows app, features desktop notification and live tile functionality that integrate the platform more closely in to a user’s computer than the in-browser experience.

Along with these announcements, Facebook stated that Windows 10 users should expect new Facebook and Messenger apps for Windows mobile in the latter half of this year.

The announcement of these new apps, which are heavily-used global platforms, adds relevance to Windows— especially on the flagging mobility side.
