Periscope could be working on an Apple TV app

Apple TV

Popular mobile live-streaming platform Periscope could be working on a new Apple TV app, at least if recent rumours reported by TechCrunch are to be believed.

The app will reportedly allow users to view live streams via a television (technically, you can already get content from Periscope on a TV through the company’s website). Rumours don’t indicate the new Apple TV will feature a built-in camera, so it’s unlikely users will be able to broadcast content through the rumoured device. It seems like that particular aspect of Periscope will likely continue to be confined to smartphones.

Periscope was purchased by Twitter before the app even officially launched for a number speculated to be in the range of $US120 million. The live streaming app now has over 10 million registered users. Moreover, Periscope users watch more than 40 years of video each day.

Periscope’s mobile app is available on iOS and Android.

The next version of the Apple TV is expected to be announced today during Apple’s keynote presentation. It’s rumoured to feature the same operating system as the company’s mobile devices, an emphasis on gaming and a more powerful A8 processor.
