Another Windows Phone 8 device has landed at WIND Mobile today. The Huawei Ascend W1 is now available and specs are decent for this entry-level device: 4-inch LCD display (480 x 800), 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, 5MP camera and barely a front-facing camera at 0.3MP, respectable 1950mAh battery. Overall dimensions are 124.5 x 63.5 x 10.5mm thin with a weight of 120 grams. The Ascend W1 is priced at $250 outright, or available on the various WINDTab pricing charts for as low as $0 on their $40/month plan.

Looks good, comes with a front facing camera and a bigger battery than the HTC Windows Phone 8S. Only downside is the 4GB internal storage really…

The 1.2 GHz Krait should do the phone great, especially for the price, it’s a great deal.

Not bad, but I would much prefer the Lumia 520 at Koodo’s price of $150

Huawei’s hardware is better in terms of bigger battery and front facing camera. I think that’s worth the $100 difference. Sure I’d wish it was $200 but $250 ain’t bad either.

The W1 has 35% more battery capacity and a front camera for $100 more than a Lumia 520. Everything else is pretty much on par hardware-wise (except for bult-in storage, the 520 has twice the storage of the W1 @ 8 GB), but Nokia has some nice exclusive apps like Nokia Music. I’d still take the 520. For those on WIND, the RM-917 model is compatible with the network.

Unfortunately RM-917 requires importing it from the States. The TELUS model is RM-915.

I’d rather get a Lumia 620 at this price.

It’s about time this phone is released in Canada.
