Dual core in 2013? What fail! Rip Rim. Dead on arrival.

Quad core nexus 4 is half the price!

    • Martin

The hardware’s optimized for the software though. Android needs the hardware. It’s like how a iphone 4 still runs everything and the same apps with pretty much less hardware. Software’s affected by the hardware on Androids a lot more.

    • Oathe_

Adding Quad-Core on a phone is preety much for show only. Most phones do not need a Quad-Core processor, having a Quad processor also affects the battery life. I prefer having a long lasting battery life than a Spec a phone does not actually need.

    • hoo dat

You obviously have no idea about efficient operating systems, do you? There is not one phone in Canada that needs to be a quad core except those that need to make up for inefficiencies in their OS’s.

Try running 10+ apps on your lovely quad cored N4 and see how far you get. When the Z10 does it there’s no detrimental effect on performance at all.

      And all with 2 cores.

The 1800mAh (conveniently ommited in the “specs” is a FAIL)
Its basically a Samsung Galaxy S2 with LTE 1080 (in 4.2″ useless) and smaller battery!

The screen should have been 720 and either: without LTE or with a 2000mAh battery.

-With that Jay Leno-Chin you would have thought that it has a huge battery inside!

  • punjabimcee

My cousin in India already has this phone.

    • Bravo – Bravo – Zulu – 1 – 0

My cousin in Zimbabwe doesn’t give a _shit_ about your cousin in India having the Z10 already.

  • RIM FOR EVER

    RIP RIM

  • angst9ine

That bezel looks monstrous!! Is there a reason?

    • Kid.Canada

Yes its for the swipe gestures like on the Playbook.

    • Buy on the Rumours Sell on the News

      Inspired by Lazaridis!

    • TheIPhoneMan

It is also for better signal, and it gives the user something to hold onto because the rest of it is edge to edge screen

  • Gab

Microphone on top, speaker on bottom?

    • treefrog

It has two of each. The mic at the top is likely for noise cancellation like on most other smartphones now. The speaker at the bottom would be for multimedia playback, ringer, speakerphone, etc.

    • Sweet

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I looked at the pic. The mic on the top is most likely for capturing ambient noise for noise reduction. I’m surprised they didn’t mention the noise reduction. The was also no mention of wideband audio. I guess it’s because so few carriers support it. Wind supports it, but Mobilicity told me they have no plans to support it in the foreseeable future.

Another spec that’s not included is the LTE and HSPA+ bands the phone supports and whether or not a single phone will support all bands or will they have two versions of the phone, like what Apple does with the iPhone5 (one for CDMA and one for UMTS, HSPA[+], LTE).

Having to press the + and – buttons at the same time to capture a photo may require 2 fingers, depending on how long the volume rocker is. But then again, it’s probably not going to be used much, since you can just tap anywhere on the screen to capture the photo.

  • Miknitro

Didn’t look like it needed any more power then it had on board.
    it’s no slouch.

  • John Marshall

I was going to balk at quad-core as well, but it’s honestly a pretty emergent technology at the moment. Phones that have it currently are mostly just to please tech heads, and they probably won’t become a practical advantage until around 2014 or so.

No Quad Core = Not Futureproof

It will be obsolete in less than one year. BB10 is playing catch up with Iphone and not Android.

    • Kid.Canada

Funny how u put futureproof and iPhone in the same sentence. The same old grid look on iOS hasnt been revamped in over 5 years and its starting to backfire on Apple. You sir have fail at trolling yet again..

    • skazzberry 2.0

Of course BB10 is playing catch up to Iphone. Iphone had dual core since when? 4s? Android is way too technically far advanced than this POS. It’s impossible to catch up to them.

Even WP8 is better than BB10.

  • Allan

Thank you BlackBerry for having a microHDMI output.

  • AwesomeP

From what I’ve read over the past year or so, Android struggles to use two cores properly. its a system designed for a single core. two cores are there for specs only to make techies say “hey this is a great and powerful” (i was guilty of this at one point), then they go out and tell the ignorant masses that its great and they buy it up. even tho the android isn’t as good as many of its alternative root os’s, mostly because its owned and designed by the marketing giant google. Because QNX is able to use the dual-core, it should be a beast of a system.

  • JR

BB is playing for third place. All they need to do with the first gen phones is to show people that they are serious about innovating the OS and that everything works as they claim that it does. From the live feed, it looks like this OS is going to deliver big time and in another year or whenever the demand is truly there on the phone and not from the public, you can bet that BB will offer a quad-core device. Besides, what’s so bad about shipping market share from Apple?

    • Steve

i dont think they will be around ot make a quadcore device… sad to say

  • rockfish

Really disappointed that it has the microUSB port on the side and not bottom.

    • Corks

But think of all the dock accessories Blackberry can sell you now!

  • Sweet

I’m disappointed it only supports 32GB of external storage. I was hoping it would support SDXC and up to at least 64GB. I have over 32GB of music that I would love to dump onto the phone, instead of picking and choosing as I have to do now.

    • hoo dat

I had it confirmed by RIM yesterday that the Z10 will support a 64GB mirco-SD.

    • Sweet

You’re right. I just checked the RIM site and they list the max as 64GB too. Thanks. That could have been a deal breaker for me.

But I would have to re-rip some of my CDs or transcode them, since the Z10 doesn’t support Apple Lossless format. No biggie.

  • Plazmic Flme

Give me real battery specs… wtf? mAh…. now!

    • Bray

      1800 mAh

  • Steve

glad to see RIM take a new direction with their hardware

instead of releasing a handset with 2 year old specs, they released a phone that can compete with the gs3 that was released last may.

bb10 still doesnt look as intuitive as jb, ios or wp8.

there is no value proposition here… why buy a z10?

    • TheIPhoneMan

Some of those may be true.. but really? A phone with bezel with build in gestures and no need for any buttons other than volume and power is not as intuitive as and IPhone? Which is a grid of apps…

  • OU812

ahahhahahah, I love it. To all those negetive i****s. How igorant are you to show everyone. None of us have actually used the device yet and yet brazenly claim the phone is a failure. Are you so mentally retarded in your armchair that you cannot or dont want to see past your farting azz. Yep, just keep farting out your ignorance from your brains while the rest of us intelligent ppl enjoy this rebirth of a brand new OS. Yeeeeeaaaahh.

    • skazzberry 2.0

The only rebirth you’ll be witnessing is the one of the hole in your wallet once you’re done paying $600 + tax for the phone OR after your 3 year contract with Robellus at $60 per month + $139 up front! Welcome back to debt sir! Might as well donate $600 to charity instead at least it will be more useful.

  • Superfly

    Poop

    • OU812

In the famous words of Eddie Murphy ” can u smell it ” ahahahah

  • OU812

I think the specs are on par and aligned for today’s daily usage. I believe if Blackberry can keep qnx optimized for dual core processing, along with current running apps, and revolutionize battery technology, blackberry could see the future where daily usage turn into weeks. i hope for it. The current specs is a great groundwork for future builds. I think ios and andriod has saturared the global market, and one day global comsumers will scream for something differnt. Its human nature to want something new. Blackberry, and ( dare i say ) wp8 will fill that landscape. Im very happy with the current specs, including microhdmi and low powered blutooth. xternal 32 gb is limited somewhat, but not an issue for me as plenty for music. Hit up on my playbook if i want to watch movies.

Imho, staying wiithin the boundaries of dual core processing for the near future will keep the price within reach of everyone including alot of third world countries. Expenditures and overhead costs low and maximize profits for blackberry. Qnx is incredibly efficient and its kernal is almost universal and adoptable in so many enviroments, how can blackberry fail.

Very happy about this launch, albeit nervous. I just wish the presentation was a little less “stiff” Sorry, Thorten. I guess this is a huge event, and musta been nervous for anyone to present.

    Peace

  • roccos_van

Although i’m pulling for RIM…this is a tough phone to wrap my head around. I admit i’m caught up in the “spec wars” (I own the Note II) But a 4.2″ Screen? Dual Core? I’m a bit dissapointed that my old i9100M from June 2011 has similar specs.

  • OU812

    @roccos_van

I somewhat agree with you on the specs, as Im a techie myself. I think the key here is that hardware specs can be easlily replicated by anyone. As Steve Jobs once said long time ago, its all about the integration and implmention of software, and in blackberry’s case its the OS, i believe is what consumers are paying for. Yes, its high for a year old specs if you compare to today’s devices but I dont think that too much for a soild OS. I think this QNX is going to be a paradigm shift in mobile OS, and i think samsung is thinking the same with its new OS as well. Andriod and Ios are following similar paths and unless they deviate or differiante thier OS, they will strulggle in the long run. Why is it that google always comes out with new revisions almost every year. I think they see what is eventurally going to happen to them somewhere down the line.

    Peace

  • roccos_van

OU812 – Well, your points are well taken, but you have to understand the Android is incredibally comstomizable, so much so that it can look like a completely different os based on themes and launchers to the lamen. Having said that…if you look at the evolution of Android over the last three years; its a completely different experience with JB when compared to Eclair/Froyo. Google always innovates, which has helped their OS move to the top of the heap. I hate Apple so I can’t comment on them, but you’re right the OS seems a bit stale, but the same could be said about rim’s old os. Very stale. BTW – I know alot about bb…i owned 5 or 6 from the pearl to bold, storm 1, 2 and 9900. Good luck to RIM, but I won’t be switching from the NOTE 2 anytime soon.

    • OU812

ahahahha, apologies. Wasnt meant to try and convince you to switch from your Galaxy. I was also a very annoyed BB user, all the way from my old curve. Guess im just glad Blackberrry got the stuff together. I travel alot so i need my gadgets for long flights esp my ps vita. The most underated device out there.

      Peace

  • Brad F, Brad F(anboy), jack

Dimitri k. will be commenting on the price of this phone from every carrier shortly.

I’m gonna out TOOL this troll of a b’atch!!

  • Sweet

According to the BB site, the Z10 can support up to 64GB of microSD storage.

  • kisd

I think multiple cores makes a bit of difference, no? My Nexus 4 runs emulators way smoother than my old S3 did.

  • Felix

I dunno bout you guys but these phones are sick. Hopefully they’re priced reasonably, I have my eye on the Q10. But the 2 Gigs of ram is nice.
