Samsung reportedly getting ready to rebrand image, possibly will be unveiled at CES 2013

Samsung, according to the latest report from Australia, is going to reveal a new brand direction. Sources from ChannelNews stated that Samsung has summoned the help from ad exec Scott Bedbury who’s worked on Nike and Starbuck’s to reveal something “more vibrant” like Apple. Apparently everything will be revealed at the upcoming CES 2013 in January.

Most surprisingly is that the report notes that the “current blue Samsung logo will disappear, with all new product marketing linked via their own individual colours that are part of an overall brand family.” If true, smartphones would have one colour, TV’s another, display’s yet another, semiconductors another, and so on… As for the specific advertising strategy, well a source said that “Even the advertising will change with products linked to lifestyle activities similar to what Nike does.”

Samsung, of course, has yet to confirm this news.

  • What’s with Android?

Excellent. Take on from Apple cues. They are the real winners!

  • nrj4life

It’s hard to argue with their success. A refresh of their brand image is welcoming to reflect that. All the best to Samsung soaring to new heights in 2013. Cheers!

I always wonder if Samsung could fill bankruptcy and save its money from apple sue case.

  • superfly

All they will do is remove the blue oval and use a different font for “Samsung”. And probably pay millions for someone to develop that.

I like how Samsung are starting to work on the things they have been missing so far.
They started to work on their marketing, they are starting to realize the importance of a good distinguishable OS on top of their phones and now this. I wouldn’t say they have matured yet, but this is the beginning of the process and it’s in the right direction, you can see they are doing their homework right aiming for the top and learning.

I just hope other companies would start to do the same, I wouldn’t like the option in the end to be buy an Iphone or a Samsung’s phone…

Fixing something that is not yet broken is a risky move for Samsung, especially given their recent success. Time will tell if it was worth it.

    • MattyMattMatt

You are right, they should wait until they are Nokia!

  • EvanKr

You’d better watch out, Samsung, if your new brand name has an “i”, “a”, “p”, “l”, or an “e” in its name, get ready to be sued out the wazoo!

    • dstruct2k

It’s a refresh of their marketing strategy, not a company name change…

    • EvanKr

      @dstruct2k

I know, but if they were to introduce some sort of new sub brand. They’ll never change their company name, that’s for sure.

  • Is this Bb10?

I only buy products branded as ‘Nexus’

    • Henry

Good for you but you are missing out with your specific personal preference

  • Slappy

Again? They’ve done it before..anyone remember when the name ‘Samsung’ was equated to junk years ago?

    • Fartknocker

Years ago? When did that change?

  • OgtheDim

    Poor choice.

Samsung should develop one external brand message – changing colour dependent upon internal divisions makes no sense as people don’t care.

There is a reason why iconic brands are called iconic.

  • Fartknocker

I’m guessing their new logo will be something very original, maybe a pear with a bite out of it.

    • Carlo

Nah, more likely a picture of your mom’s legs in a V :-p

  • deltatux

Personally, I don’t see why Samsung has to change their branding, current one works just fine. Didn’t really like Microsoft’s rebranding either.

  • Aryana

    I don’t like this re-branding drama :/
I think Samsung should stick to what it is right now…this brand and the blue colour (which is my favourite lol not that you care but still) got them lucky to be where they are.
They should just let it be the way it is!
