During CES 2012 we saw HzO demonstrate a “cutting-edge technology” called WaterBlock. This gives electronics, specifically mobile phones, the ability to repel water and protect them from any sort of damage. It’s certainly needed and rumours surfaced that both Apple and Samsung might incorporate this into future smartphones.
Nokia Beta Labs recently created a video that shows something that could be embedded into future smartphones. Conor Pierce, VP of Nokia Western Europe, demoed a Lumia 710 that has Nokia nanotechnology that has a Superhydrophobic stain-resistant material. Pierce stated that repels water like a lily pad and that “Superhydrophobic technology makes water bounce, it stops it, rolls it off the device, that’s the magic, that’s what we’re going to bring to the party.”
Piece also said that he hopes this type of technology will be “enablers for a completely new device form factors. So if you think about flexible devices, bendable devices, and ultimately even stretchable devices.”
