TELUS posts upcoming “Device OS Upgrade schedule” online (Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, iOS)

Who needs internal docs to let then know about when we can expect a device to be upgraded? Not TELUS customers. The friendly mobile carrier has shed some light on where various device upgrades stand. They’ve uploaded a schedule, plus indicated if it’s in testing or not, and gives an estimated time of when the next OS for your Android, Windows Phone, iPhone or BlackBerry is expected to roll out. Here’s the latest info, dated May 3rd:

Android:
- Samsung Galaxy SII X upgrade to 4.0 is expected Early June
- Samsung Galaxy Note upgrade to 4.0 is expected Early June
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 upgrade to 4.01 is expected Mid June
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 upgrade to 4.0 is expected Late July
- LG Optimus LTE 4.0 upgrade to 4.0 is expected Mid July
- HTC Amaze 4G upgrade to 4.0 is expected May 28th
- Moto Xoom upgrade to OS 4.0 is expected Late May
- S.E Xperia Ray 4.0 Not in TELUS labs June 11th

BlackBerry:
- BlackBerry Bold 9790 upgrade to OS 7.1 is expected Early June

Apple:
- No Updates Currently Planned.

Windows Phone:
- Nokia Lumia 800 upgrade is probably the battery fix issue and is expected to be Early June

The document is titles “Device OS Upgrade schedule” and clearly states a couple times that “Expected dates are subject to change.” However, this is great progress of being completely transparent.

    Rogers???

You guys just don’t get it:

Creating Bloatware on top of Android to slow the phones, create glitches, use more battery and data…takes time!!

  • Beso

sucks big time for the SG2x users!

    • buyRIMM

A list like that only proves that when buying an Android phone, you should get the “international version” or equivalent. The last thing you would need is to be hold hostage by your operator, not to mention the reselling value of the phone.
Used Bell (international version) of the Samsung Galaxy S2 go for $350 used on Kijiji.
The 2x Telus version can’t sell for $300.
The same goes for LG optimus 2x, $200 and won’t sell.

Very exciting… I’ll finally get some Ice Cream goodness on my Amaze… just 20 short days…

  • Nenad

Seems like everybody except Rogers cares for their customers.. I hope I dont have to wait till July for my Galaxy Note update

  • Collin

wow.. upgrade to 4.0 a bout a month or two before 5 is released great job telus.

    • buyRIMM

The future is friendly…..but always late!

  • vn33

Small but right step toward showing the customer that you are actulally thinking about them !

  • AllanVS

ROGERS: Take notes from Telus on customer service, and transparency.

  • gg11

How about an exact date? Not this coming soon or early/mid/late month crap!

    • Zomby

Probalby because they don’t know the exact date, duh.

    • buyRIMM

      Send them a letter:
Im sure that Telus will Promptly reply to you without hesitation at their own convenience in a quick fashion without further delay as soon as they can and they will let you know that they will communicate with you expeditely the answer to your inquiry very promptly that the dates are to be determined in accordance to their own methods and procedures upon proper testing and research to minimize the impact to their customer base from end of May to the “Middler part of the year”.
Some restrictions may apply, of course!

RIM will give you a Playbook for $99 before they tell you a date (that is not in the mayan calendar) for BB10, and you just EXPECT Telus to tell you a firm date for an upgrade to thier phones?
-Who do you think you are?

sony wanted all the xperia ray’s to be upgraded by 4-6 weeks after april 13 when it was origonally reaesed this date puts that well out of the 4-6 week period and not in telus labs what is that supposed to mean sony has already shipped it to some of their international devices.

  • Alex Perrier

Sweet stuff! Let’s see WINDéotricity get on board with the HTC Amaze 4G upgrade to 4.0!

  • Mike

Very disappointed for the Xperia Ray. Every other country has the update from Sony Ericsson but Canada.

  • blackprince

Good news I have been waiting on the 12070 update for awhile now.

  • John

WTF… why 1 month after samsung released it?

Ill just get the update from T-Mobile on the 15… this is stupid.

  • Dan J

What happens when I’ve got a rooted, unlocked Bell variant GS2 running on Telus?

    • Zomby

You can already update it since the update has been released. Just install Kies and upate it.

    • buyRIMM

You laugh at Telus and their 2X customers for having to wait so much and for having way less developers in xda forums.
Your phone will have a higher reselling value and might even get Google 5 byt the Fall.

  • goose

this blows. I had my hopes up last week.

  • Darren

    You rock Telus. NOT!
Bell sure looks like the place to go for new phones these days.

  • Tweak

@DanJ, if you have a rooted variant why aren’t you already running ICS? Get to XDA man! But to answer your question I imagine if you are just using the stock bell rom rooted you may or may not get the update when Bell rolls out but I really doubt you will get the telus update even though you are on their network.

  • Ryan

Might be time to just jailbreak my sgs2x… it’s early May now, meaning at least one month for the official upgrade… and Samsung already released it. I wonder how much bloatware Telus can put on the device.

  • Hammad s2x

I was hoping sometime in May for gs2x this sucks

  • Yvan

And once again Telus is months behind xda. Good there is a community that lets me get current software when it’s still relatively current.

  • exodus

I wish there was a decent ics rom for the rogers sg2 lte already or else i would have rooted by now and flashed a custom rom because this is taking rogers forever. If anyone knows of a solid working rom for the rogers sg2 lte let me know

    • buyRIMM

For the SG2 Rogers and Telus decided to make their own versions, while Bell got the “International Version” that got Google 4 since Feb.
Lesson to learn do not buy operator specific hardware!
I wouldnt buy a Telus or Rogers version of the SG2 with a 10 feet pole!
If you can sell it and then get the Bell SG2 Version.
those phones will drop in price in the next three weeks now that you can get a Samsung nexus brand new for $425 plus taxes.

  • borghead

Hmmm. So the “software update available soon” on their Web page I’d another lie from Telus. Its been on their site for over a month, now they tell us it will be another month. So in Telus language, 2 months is “soon”. Never again Telus. Saskgel released the sgiix update last week. Telus was given the source code by Samsung in February. They obviously don’t give a damn about their customers.

  • Joe

    Rootzwiki > XDA

  • HTC amaze

i checked the telus website and the HTC amaze isn’t listed

    • Dallas

Huh? On the website it says clearly that the Amaze update is out May 28th.

  • Corks

No Motorola Milestone 2.3/4.0?? lol just kidding…

  • Max

Thank you Telus for locking our Xperia Ray and not giving us an update either…

  • daniel

does anybody know how to do the xda on my s2x so i can get ICS now and not wait another month…. good on bell and sasktel to already have it….how can telus be behind sasktel to get out the update?!?!?!? shame!

  • TyroneLT

I swear these carriers are slower then the speed of smell when it comes to software updates….smh….

  • Simon

Aww the Desire HD is not listed? WTF??

  • Neil

I had my hopes up for a release maybe this week but another month that’s disappointing Telus, considering how there was no bloatware on my Gingerbread GS2X.

    Stop wasting everyone’s time Telus….

  • Nick

I just hope that I can get kies to work by then. Two computers, reinstalls, most times it won’t connect and when it does it won’t sync or back up. Fingers crossed…
