WIND has big plans to expand their coverage this year. Some of the known locations for customers to call a WIND Home Zone are Windsor, Barrie, Peterborough, Kingston, Belleville, Victoria, Halifax, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Regina. Most of them will be live mid-year, but it seems that Barrie has quietly become a home zone. I’m honestly not sure when this happened, but their coverage map says they are live. Unfortunately there no stores to purchase a device/plan, so we’re not sure if they are handing our area code 705 numbers yet. In the meantime you can check out the coverage map above.

More coverage is a good thing. Don’t think anybody can argue with that…

People arguing they should fix dead zones in the current zones before expanding, they are fixing their actual zones. Building a network takes time. Even the big 3 has dead zones in major urban areas, it can’t be helped.
Also, just because they’re expanding to new areas doesn’t mean they’re slacking more in existing areas.

Was live January 12th when I was there. Caught me by surprise too, as I was in Huntsville for the weekend, and had no service. Million texts at once.

Huntsville is like the middle point between Barrie and North Bay. o.O
But yes, the thing has been on a while.

I’ve had wind home in Peterborough for over a month now but with no acknowledgment of home service existing here..

The Barrie zone is too small to be useful for local residents, because you when live in a small town you spend a lot of time outside of it. It’s more useful to for us GTA people passing through on our way to skiing resorts.

I still can’t understand why Wind goes into different cities, and can’t provide coverage to the entire city!
I would buy Wind if I could, as I’m in London, but of course, I happen to live outside the coverage area.

It’s simple really. Just let them build a tower in your backyard.
What? No?!
Guess it’s not that simple.

A small calling area for certain — hardly a “home zone.”
When I lived in Barrie (and worked for the local TV station), I wouldn’t have had calling access while at work or at home as I lived about double the distance away from the fringe area as displayed. They should’ve made that a lot larger before going live.

Yes! Also looking forward to this. More competition is a win for us poor downtrodden consumers!

To be honest, I had to google on this City.
If you wonder where it is… http://g.co/maps/mvvcf
I learned something today, I guess.

Really for everyone complaining about the tower density in current home zones in order for the money for new towers they would need more money. When you build new home zones you get new customers who pay and then they get more money. They can then use that money to improve home zones where there would be less new customers as many are already on them.

It’d actually be sort of nice if Wind started providing microcells and offering extra services to those that used them to beef up spotty service in an area.

WIND Mobile! Bringing you five square blocks of crystal clear coverage in Barrie since 2012!
I kid, I kid. This is awesome. The more cities, the faster they grow, right? That’s how it works – exponentially?

Also, if you click on the WIND map link above, you can start to see how much of Ontario is beginning to get coverage.

Bell has service because they were a crown corporation, had a tax payer funded monopoly.Bell,Telus still charges like they’re one in the 21C. So yes, coverage is easy when you had tax payers held hostage paying for it then, and now.Rogers isn’t any better with their pricing since their growth.Still paying for those access charges, network charges, held to contract penalties ; why?

I am still waiting for the expansion around the Edmonton area that was promised a year ago, I might have to stick with Telus.

WIND does post all the sites that they have put on-air for the last six months. Go to the store locator click on “Coverage Updates” and voila! Proof that they are actively fixing dead spots where possible.
