“Need an Accountant” app released by the CGA

Tax time is coming up and the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA-Canada) have taken the time to make sure you know about their services. A brand new app has been released that’s creatively called the “Need an Accountant” app. It unfortunately doesn’t do your taxes, but can point you in the direction of finding somebody who can. The app gives you access to search reputable accounting firms, name, services offered and location via GPS. The “Need an Accountant” is free and available for Android smartphone and tablet, plus on the iPhone and iPad. No word on if/when the app will be available on BlackBerry or Windows Phone.

  1. By reputable I am sure they mean firms that have payed to be included in the app.

I don’t have any hate on for CGA-Canada but these are the people that Trade Marked “Creative Accounting” because they didn’t like it’s previous use. What was funny is that they released a radio campaigne saying that “we own this term now” (to paraphrase) it was the most rediculous thing I have ever heard.

Now I am all for innovation, this is a good idea, but the organization CGA-Canada are as uptight as one might expect. just left a bad taste in my mouth.

  2. I am sure this is valid only for those companies that have paid to be apart of this app. Accountaints don’t do anything for free….

I don’t have my hate on or anything….but these are the same people that Trade Marked the term Creative Accounting because they didn’t like it’s previous use. The fact that they thought they could buy the rights *essentially* to that term and change it’s meaning in any meaningful way by sheer force of egotistical will is beyond me. I remember the radio ad for it…it was hillarious. it said (to paraphrase) in booming accountant voice “…we own the rights to this name, and this is what it means now….so don’t use it that other way….” muuhahahahah

Anyhow…I will get off of it. I think I just needed to get that out.

  5. This app from the people who *essentially* bought the rights (via trade mark) for the term “Creative Accounting”.

Then released a radio ad telling everyone that “we are now changing a 50 year old term to mean the following….because we said so….so eat it people”

This was such a poor idea to begin with.

Now on topic. This app is a good idea, I am certain that it’s for those companies that payed to be in this service which always makes me suspect.

  6. Ya, seems a little like a self serving promotion, and nothing more.

  9. So, now that this world class app has been covered, can we have news reports about who posted a new picture to Facebook?

  10. Of course the CGAs are doing the T1s, because the CAs will be reviewing them.
