Microsoft reportedly planning to open a retail store in Toronto by the end of 2012

Microsoft is apparently planning to open a “Microsoft Store” in Toronto soon. New reports from The Verge have Microsoft entering our fine land for the first time, directly going to compete with Apple’s 22 retail locations. The store will be located somewhere in Toronto – could be in the Eaton Centre or Yorkdale Mall – with timing of a grand opening set to happen before the holiday period.

As to what the Microsoft Store will sell – all Microsoft products. So software, keyboards, mice, Xbox 360 and Windows Phone handsets. Taking a look at the Microsoft Store site it shows that there are currently 16 locations across the United States, but Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s COO, stated last year that they plan to open 75 new Microsoft Stores within the next 3-years.

I was recently in a Microsoft Store in Scottsdale, Arizona and I must say that they’re quite nice stores. Spacious, bright, well laid-out. Lots of space dedicated to XBox360, latest-and-greatest PCs, peripherals and the one Windows Phone (Lumia 710) that was available at the time. It had knowledgeable staff and basically everything you’d find in an Apple Store except one thing:

    Customers.

Apple will sue them for getting the same Apple’s idea!!!!

    • MSstore

The store won’t have any doors; only Windows!

“basically everything you’d find in an Apple Store except one thing:

We Canadians, would welcome them than their mothercountry. We’re cool like that!

Hope we can buy computers and phones without blotwares, trialwares from their stores.

Microsot, Please at least…bring those 2nd generation phones from HTC and Samsung (Oh, Huwei and ZTE for low-end market too).

Completitors are good for Canadian Market.

Wonder where they got the store design from. oh ya from Apple store,,lol Microsoft is such a joke. Their phones suck. I had got a Samsung Focus Wp7 just to try it out for fun, was a terrible experience, phones battery couldn’t last more than 3 hours on standby. And the phones software is a joke and the look of it is boring. I’ve always had an iphone starting with the original Iphone, the 3g, then the 3gs, then the 4, and now the 4s. And I’ve tried Blackberry’s what Cr@p is that, lol doesn’t even consider to be a smartphone. And I’ve tried Android but can’t stand android phones battery dying so fast, and screen lags and screen freezing up, and force closes, and bein stuck without the darn updates. I’ve tried pretty much every kind of cellphone and OS and quite Frankly I find Iphones the best. And my next Iphone will be Iphone 5, then IPhone 6., then Iphone 7, then Iphone 8 and so on.

Must be a boring closed minded world you live in. Next time try a Samsung Galaxy S2. Makes your little (emphasis on its pathetic 3.5 inch screen) Iphone look like a toy for toddlers.

    • Rob

based on you obviously being as uneducated as you are, i think you are the joke

    • freestaterocker

3 hours on standby?! Did you charge it? I have an hd7 with a larger screen and smaller battery and it only drains 25% on standby while I’m a work, where it’s constantly searching for signal, for a 10 hour shift. (searching for signal because I work in a rural area, not because of reception problems.) I call bs.

    • SAM

NO NO NO!!! YOU TO TRY THE SAMMIE!!! USE THE NOTE AND SAVE YOUR WIFE!!!! NOW WAKE UP WITH SAMMIE!!!!
      SAMMIE FOR TO WIN!!!!

It will be in the new part of Yorkdale…

    • Keith

Wow, they’re actaully making Yorkdale bigger than it is. It’s been too long since I’ve been back for a visit.

  • Kenny

Here’s hoping they’ll sell devices unlocked, bloat free, contract free, and most importantly, carrier free.

  • Jesse

Looks an awful lot like an Apple Store anyway.

I’m welcoming it. It could be Microsoft’s chance to get more exposure in their respected markets.

  • crunch204

so can we expect to be able to buy WP7 unlocked from this store?

  • roman129

I’ve been to the Microsoft store in Chicago, it’s a pretty lonely place.

  • Azzo

I bet it will be going to Yorkdale since they are expanding the mall for more stores. and im guessing the construction is supposed to be finished at the end of 2012

  • A Contrary Voice

Maybe the XBox 360 store on Queen West (just east of Spadina on the north side) will be converted to a Microsoft store.

They closed up the XBox 360 store just after the Christmas season, but I never really understood the point if it anyhow. Timing-wise they could completely renovate it and be up and running in time for the Christmas 2012 season.

  • blackkey

man, i cant wait. Hopefully we will get some very nice unlocked wp7′s. Probobly some frontrunner pc’s and 360′s. I think it might open up over in sherway though.
