Here’s something cool to start February off with. If you’re thinking about joining or upgrading to a Virgin Mobile smartphone you might have the chance to win a pre-screening of the upcoming flick John Carter. It’s not just any pre-screening – Virgin will hand over the entire theatre to you and your buddies, plus also feed you with popcorn. You’ll be automatically entered once you sign up/upgrade and it officially starts on Feb. 1st, until February 23rd.
(Thanks tipster!)
The Syrup site is super slow to load pages right now.
Usually there is a “no purchase entry” option for contests like these. Contests alone aren’t what most customers, at least the smart ones, want first in a company. It’s a good giveaway, but it would be better to offer valuable plans including free caller ID.
Hopefully, they get Valentine’s Day deals, including discounts for SIM-only activations. It’s up to them, i suppose.

They already offer discount for sim only plans. $5 rebate/month for talk and text plans, and $10/month rebate for smartphone plans.

Another brilliant promo from Virgin/Bell! Shackle yourself to a 3 year plan and get a CHANCE to watch a movie and popcorn. Wow! That really makes it for me. THANK YOU for giving me such a compelling reason to choose Virgin! Who runs your marketing department? Rain-Man? Yeah, seems he’s also working at RIM…

MG, you’re a dunce.
Virgin seems to be the only one out there who runs contests decent contests regularly for their customers and you still find a way to spit on generosity.
Get a life you pessimist.

Rich, thanks for making me laugh! So you consider their mediocre (at best) promos is about GENEROSITY? Oh man! You either work for them (which I believe is the case) or you are just a great example of how Canadian consumers have been trained to accept poor or average service at high rates and poor marketing. The oligopoly we have here provides no incentive for wireless providers to innovate. But you seem to be ok with that, as long as they give you a chance to win a movie ticket! Good for you! Your low expectations will certainly make you feel warm and fuzzy throughout your life. For those of us who can see beyond the stale carrot that is being placed in front of us, we’ll just continue being “pessimists”.

GG MG, as Alex clarified, no purchase necessary. So by your logic ‘free = bad’.
I’m pretty sure my argument still stands. It’s not about offers at this point, its about free sh*t for their new and existing userbase. But then again, maybe you’re just surly because the last thing your provider gave you for free was poor customer service when Virgin is ranked among the best.
Dont get me wrong, I dont even use a Virgin device, but even so, im not blindly subjective to all Big 3 articles that pop up on this site like certain others around here.
