Quick update here regarding a very popular data plan. The $30/month 6GB plan that Rogers currently has will expire on February 6th, 2012. The good news is that this plan will be available for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus launch on Friday. However, this plan seems to come and go and we’ll probably see it pop up again around Valentine’s Day, just in time to give new customers love.
(Thanks tipster!)
I’ll stick with WIND’s $40 for everything plan. North America is my local calling area and Earth is my local texting area. Try and match that, Rogers.

But you have to stay home cause you have small coverage!

For some people, that isn’t an issue Patrick. Other than spending major holidays with my folks up north, I haven’t travelled outside of the GTA in like 7 years. It’s a huge area, and excluding my parents, everyone I know lives in Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, or Richmond Hill — all within their unlimited zone, and an area that covers over 4 million people. I’m not exactly feeling claustrophobic

For people that actually have lives outside Toronto, and go north for the weekends or travelling throughout the country, Wind’s coverage sucks.
The download speeds fluctuate from bad to abysmal, the uplink speeds are a joke (I had 32 kb/s uploading once, really.).
And signal drops and dead zones are more common than a cold.

Is it possible to get 300 minutes and 2gb or more of data and caller id on iphone and pay 60 including all taxes? canadian telecoms are rip offs and I refuse to pay their inflated rates.. as of now, waiting for wind to get iphone.

WIND will not get the iPhone. If you do some research, you’ll learn that Apple has such a sought after device that they absolutely control negotiations. When Bell and Telus launched their HSPA networks, they desperately needed the iPhone to compete with Rogers. Apple was like “These are our terms. Agree to all of them or no iPhone. They are non-negotiable.”
Part of the deal includes Apple taking a significant cut of phone and plan revenue — something that WIND simply cannot afford to do, unless they had iPhone-specific plans that were like 50% more expensive than their regular plans.

Chatr $35/month with a WIND Mobile Hotspot/Android starting at $15/month. That gives you unlimited texting to and from anywhere in Canada, unlimited calling to and from Canada when in the “Chatr zones”, and 1 GB of Internet within WIND’s coverage. There are also 3 GB and 10 GB plans.
Before someone says Chatr is of the devil/is Rogers/etc., since the iPhone only works with Big 3 frequencies, someone who absolutely wants the iPhone and nothing else must choose the best plan. The calling and texting are no biggie for the Big 3′s flanker brands. Internet is their cash cow, however, so the WIND plans are the best option for portable Internet.
Koodo would charge $5/month more for the 1 GB and 3 GB Internet plans, plus their Canada-wide calling, caller ID and Voice Mail cost $20 more compared to Chatr’s $35 plan, which is better than the CityFido/Koodo plans. Hopefully iPhone lovers consider these deals, and give less money to the Big 3.

I also got an extra $5 off this deal from retention so I am getting 6GBs $25/month. It wouldn’t hurt to ask.

How did you go about getting $5 off? The reps are real stone cold a-holes!

This is indeed more generous than the $30/month for 4 GB promo at Verizon in USA. Sometimes i wonder if Koodo will eventually increase the Data Saver allowances for the same price. And the Sprint and T-Mobile carriers in USA have unlimited non-tethered Internet access, something which i’ve only seen with the Palm Pre smartphone and feature (“dumb”) phones from the Big 3 here.
i can imagine Bell and Telus would eliminate the $30 promo on the same day as Rogers. They should just keep it a permanent price, at the bare minimum. They already gouge us a lot for voice, and significantly ($15 instead of $5) for SMS and MMS. Mobile Internet is a data guessing game: pay for a small plan and get big fees for using too much, pay for a big plan that you barely use, or find something “just right.”
To me, T-Mobile USA and WIND have a good strategy of buying full-speed usage blocks, with unlimited faster-than-EDGE overage. i’m also happy WIND asks $20/month (add-on to Smart or higher plan) or $35/month (standalone) for 10 GB at full speed. Good thing not all companies gouge for mobility.

My wife and I have ad that 6GB data plan for over 5 years ever since the days when we had our blackberry. Both of us having an iPhone this plan is even more worth it in my opinion. Sure glad we were grandfathered in on each smartphone upgrade.

What does this mean for people who already have a contract with the 6gb data plan?

This article is a bit confusing…
Does it mean that they will not offer the 6GB plan on new plans from now on, or they are terminating it for existing plans (which I don’t think they can do)?
… Then the article says the plan will be available again in the 2nd week of Feb.
So does this mean that the 6GB data plan will only NOT be available between the 1st and 2nd weeks of Feb?

They have a LTE plan, $50 for 10gb. Was actually going to get that and use between my LTE razr and iphone4s and yes I know that iPhone is not lte. But
Even using razr and tether to iPad…. Might be worth it now

The 6GB data for $30 works for LTE phones as well. All you need to do is tell them you want is as LTE. Most Rogers reps will not know this but direct them to the Rogers community on the Rogers website so they will see it.

The screenshot says smartphones and lte devices. Does that mean that lte will be $30/6 GB?? That would be awesome. Any word on if the Rogers galaxy nexus will be LTE. One more week to find out!!

Rogers is NOT release a fhe Galaxy Nexus as a LTE Device. This has been said many times even from Rogers. Anyone that is reserving it from Rogers is seeing it under the smartphone list not LTE list. Yes this works with LTE. All you need to do is call in and get them to add the LTE on it.

Also Verizon is the ONLY company in the world that has the ONLY LTE Galaxy nexus. If you search it up you will see it for ur self as well.

I’m not sure I quite follow you Dimitri – Yes, the only LTE GNex is on Verizon (It ALSO has CDMA/EVDO). That version of the GNex has a LTE radio. The pentaband HSPA GNex -DOES NOT- have a LTE radio. I don’t see how you could have Rogers “add in” LTE onto a phone that doesn’t inherently support it to begin with.

Read what Ray said. He said “Any word on if the Rogers galaxy nexus will be LTE. One more week to find out!!” So i replied that ONLY Verizon will be getting the LTE Galaxy Nexus. Rogers put the Galaxy Nexus up on the reservation list under the Android / Smartphone list Not the LTE list. Its not that hard to read & follow.
I simply told him Rogers will not offer the LTE version.

Would you need to call up Rogers if you were to initially have LTE data for an Android, and then change to an iPhone or vice versa?
Thanks.

Yea you can add LTE data on your account & if you have a phone that does not have LTE then the data will work as a 3G / 4G ( HSPA). It works backwords.

What I don’t understand about this add on is that it requires a 3year data contract just for the privilege of having this add on. Bell and Telus do not make you agree to a 3 year data unless you get a phone subsidy. If I have my own smartphone and I just wanted to add this and I did not get a subsidized phone why should I have to commit to this feature for 3 years?

I am totally with you. I used to be with Rogers and I always have my own phone. I leave them almost 2 years ago because everything little things that they give you require a 3 year term. This is complete rubbish!

if the plan is expiring in feb, does that mean that my $30 6GB plan will be cancelled or that new customers cannot get that plan?

I do not know how you would think that but no. It means that NO ONE will be able to get the 6GB for $30 after that date. Existing costumers & new ones will not be able to get that data package after the date it shows.Anyone that already has it will keep it until they either take it off their plan OR cancel their contract.

MobileSyrup: Could you post the codes for reference that are mentioned in the picture from the article? That, or could you post a picture that shows the codes mentioned? Thx.

They are not going to show the codes because the SS was taken the way you see it.
All you need to do is call Rogers & ask them to add the 6GB $30 data & they will. Same goes with the 6GB LTE data for $30

Dimitri K.: My question was directed to someone from MobileSyrup. I am awaiting a response from them. If they don’t have the codes, or if they don’t intend on releasing them, that is fine by me.

How do you access this $30/month 6GB plan. I have checked the Rogers site for several hours, searched the site, but I see no mention of this plan.
If I can find it I may order it with the Galaxy Nexus this week.

This plan doesnt exist anymore. I called last week and they said it exists, I called today to switch over, and this morning they had a hard time adding to my account. After talking to 10 different reps, they put me through to retentions, and finally he said that this plan has expired.
He gave me some other plan with a $10 discount to equate to the value plan + 6GB data for $60.
If you want the plan, that might be the route you’d have to go to. And it does not include LTE data.

I’ve been waiting for this for months but I always keep missing it. Does anyone know when the next one is? Is the one for valentines day for all smart phone or only for Samsung? Does Rogers give email notifications? I’ve already follow moblesyrups tweeter, but I never got this info and when I check Rogers site it never shows up. Sorry for any grammar mistake english is my 2nd language.
