Fido has been sloooowwwwly releasing new devices. They did go on a brief spurt and launch the Sony Ericsson Xperia pro and LG Optimus 2x, both Android devices, around the same time. In addition, Rogers sub-brand just released the BlackBerry Curve 9360… but it’s their next device that will put then into the game once again. No, it’s not the Galaxy Nexus, we’ve been informed by multiple sources that Fido will be releasing the new Android 2.3, “impossibly thin”, Motorola RAZR. This was a “Rogers exclusive” and will be trickling down to Fido – the downside is that we don’t have pricing, nor a clear release date. Most likely sometime in Q1 2012.
We’ll have more info soon!
(Thanks tispters!)
Glad to see the sub brands getting higher end phones they can’t all be like Virgin

Fido has great plans… but lame phones. No high end BlackBerry only the Curve.. I even email them about this all they said was to buy a Rogers and unlock it. lol. Bring the Galaxy Nexus soon.. not a year from now.

From what I recall, you don’t have to unlock Rogers phones in order to use them with a Fido SIM card.
Anyway I’m glad to see that Fido is getting better phones. They have pretty good plans except for their data which is only 500mb. They’re still a relatively good company though. They gave me $20 off this month for no apparent reason. The Fido dollars are good too.

@Thas. You are wrong. Most of the Blackberries / iPhones & My Raider can not be used with Fido UNLESS i unlock them. I already tried putting the sim card in from Fido & none of the 14 phones i have work with Fido. Just because Fido is owned by Rogers does NOT mean you can use Rogers phones with Fido. Bell owns Virgin yet you CAN NOT use a bell sim card on a virgin phones & vise versa.

Dimitri, that’s true almost all the time, but there are a few exceptions where Bell + Virgin or Rogers + Fido are interoperable. They are probably the odd phone which they forgot to hard-lock. The rare “soft-locked” phone only works with Rogers-branded (or Bell-branded) networks, but still works on Fido or Virgin, respectively.
Solo can easily accept Bell devices, if you’re willing to put up with a dying brand that only sells three phones online with no retail presence whatsoever. That’s because all next to all Solo stock has been “flashed” to work with Bell or Virgin instead. Solo’s monthly plans aren’t that great, either.
Chatr can also easily accept Rogers devices. Fido? That usually requires a soft-locked or unlocked device. Unlike Solo, Chatr carries a wider selection of phones, although only one is a smartphone. Chatr only has three plans, so the choice is simple. It’s for those who want AWS-like pricing without an AWS device.
Telus and Koodo are interoperable, as far as i know.
Well, that’s all i’ll say. Hope that helps!

You have to unlock Fido phones to use them with a Rogers SIM card so I doubt the opposite would works.

This is amazing. I was waiting to get the Galaxy Nexus and now have to decide if Rzr or Nexus? What I like about fido is they have great plans/ unlimited, decent and reliable network coverage and pick the right devices. They didnt rush into Android and stuck to iPhone. Now that Android is strong enough, they bring a few but good ones. The ppopy knows exactly what its doing . . . I love my fido

@Dimitri K Actually as long as with Bell or Virgin they have the same phone in their line up the sim cards can be interchanged, I have tested this on at least 7 devices not sure about the ones that do not carry over though….

yes but i have a Fido line & a Rogers line & the Curve 9680 & the 3GS & the iPhone 4 / 4S. None of them work with my Rogers Sim card or vise versa. This is something that a lot of people are complaining about tho. You guys need to understand Rogers did this so if someone is going to port over from Rogers to Fido or Fido to Rogers they NEED to get a new phone in order to sign a new term. Yes some you don’t but most likely you do. Its something a lot of carriers are doing in order to make money.

I a phone is network locked then it can be used with a compant and their subs (Rogers, Fido, Chatr) or (Bell, Virgin) like Nokia, Sonyericsson, but if its carrier locked then you have to unlock it such as the iPohne, Blackbarry.
