Future Shop and Best Buy confirm Asus Transformer Prime Canadian shipping delay

Perhaps it’s a Canadian thing. Over the weekend NCIX, a Canadian retailer, sent out an email to customers who pre-ordered the upcoming Asus Transformer Prime Android tablet that the “WiFi range does not currently meet their standards and has delayed all shipments worldwide.” This news spread quickly, but was squashed by ASUS themselves. The Verge reported, via an Asus US spokesperson, that “At this point, we still show to be on schedule to start shipments the week of 12/19. I will provide an update once I have additional information”.

So again, perhaps it’s a Canadian thing because we’ve been tipped numerous times overnight and into today that the Asus Transformer Prime Tablet, along with the Keyboard Dock, have been delayed – at least in Canada. This latest news was confirmed in an email, double and triple checked by our sources and friends at Future Shop and Best Buy. In email to me Future Shop said that “I can confirm the letter was indeed sent to pre-order customers at Future Shop”.

The complete email is below and the key takeaway notes that We’ve recently been informed by Asus that there is an unexpected delay in receiving the items, and as a result, we are unable to ship the tablet on the date originally planned. No other details about why the tablet is delayed, but the Transformer Prime was scheduled to arrive on December 5th, then the 22nd, then the 20th… now MIA.

I pre-ordered mine via Best Buy and have yet to receive this email, plus my online order confirmation page still shows the release date as 12/20 as of right now. But BB didn’t email me when the shipping date was changed from 12/5 to 12/22 and then to 12/20 so I’m guessing this will eventually pop up in my inbox. Dammit!!

  • Mr marquis

    Just buy an Ipad

    • Ricko

I-”name” products in late 2011 going into 2012?
      You gotta be shitting me…

  • som

no worries here. rather have a complete working tablet than something that’s partially finished.

Asus can’t get away like Apple can. Apple can introduce anything unfinished and people will buy it.

    • T H

Amen to that. I would love to have the tablet to play with over my Xmas holiday time but I would rather wait a little longer to have one that works properly!

    • Tom

I half agree with you – Apple can get away with anything.

But usually that means various forms of abusing the enormous control they have over their users. In the last couple of years they have been pretty good about not releasing products until they are ready.

  • hallway

I thought it was BlackBerry PlayBook.
    Just saying…

  • Mike

I think the delay just means it won’t be shipping out for the 12th, but rather they’ll be receiving them on the week of the 19th and shipping when they get them… So basically since it’s the holiday season we’re going to have to wait a bit longer for these things to get shipped.

  • wewewi

25$ is a pretty cool gift; will definetly consider FutureShop first for any upcoming pre-sale!

    • Matty

Probably because of Christmas. They tend to do that stuff because if it is a gift, people get pissed. Keeping customers is always easier.

  • wewewi

Maybe they prefer to sell their early units 499 euros apiece rather than 499 CAD; can’t blame them.

  • Pascal

No news from Staples. Pre-ordered mine there but have not received any indication of anything.

  • B

I also contact Futureshop yesterday in regards to this email and they confirmed to me that in their system they are still showing a ship date of 22nd. So I believe Mike is right they will be shipping next week but expect to get it after boxing day.

  • John

I don’t know who to believe anymore. There is so much gossip online. I contacted Amazon.ca yesterday and they told me on the phone that everything is on schedule. However, I did recieve the standard email from them last week saying otherwise…. I just don’t know… but I am hoping.

  • Mike

And btw I emailed NCIX back about my pre-order delay and they said they expected the devices to arrive either late THIS week, EARLY next week, OR after the holidays if the shipment doesn’t make it be them. This seems to make sense considering late next week is probably going to be a Christmas shipping fiasco (as in everyone wants something shipped for Christmas, so huge backups in terms of shipping).

  • Scott K

Wait…they got $25 gift cards?! My Amazon (US) pre-order was CANCELLED, not just delayed, and I got jack s**t. Yet another reason I should move to Canada.

  • Asa Akira

Keep in mind (BestBuy consumers) that BestBuy is an American firm so if there is a delay for us Canadians, we may still receive them.
P.S.BestBuy might have included both the American and Canadian stock for Primes. Fingers crossed?

And if Asus made the confirmation of their release date public (not just some a-hole on the telephone on the customer rep. dept.) then most likely we will be getting them “the week of the 19th”. :)

  • gooser91

Nah, this is just a Canadian thing, The US will be getting the tablets as scheduled. Have confirmed this through asus, best buy, amazon and J and R USA.

    Sorry Canadians!

For all Americans, Disregard this article, we will recieve the prime as scheduled, without any delays.

  • Brandon Goudie

WOW, how come US sales are not delayed, but Canada sales are?! BS!

  • Hyzz

Lol that’s really stupid of you Americans so you are saying the Canadian primes had wifi issue and American ones didn’t?like really? Does that seam possible?rofl!

  • gooser91

@Hyzz, as asus has confirmed, there are no wifi problems. They were as curioius as everyone else where NCIX had come to that conclusion.

What seems logical though, is that Canada’s primes are just plain being delayed, possibly to be routed to US retailers, I’m not sure. One thing is certain, as Asus has confirmed “US will ship the 19th, Canadas will be delayed, but not for WIFI issues, as the have said no such issues exist.

  • john bella

really ?! i newer received anything, so till then its all good , sorry man but i don’t trust this , nobody that i know , received anything, and i know 3 people that pre ordered the prime.
    all from future shop

  • Mike E

Maybe, just maybe, they’re sending out emails to people who pre-ordered too late and they know they don’t have enough units to cover all pre-orders.
One can always dream. This was an xmas present, so pretty lame to have nothing under the tree if it works out that way.

  • Craig

I called FutureShop and complained when the date changed from the 5th to the 22nd. I ended up speaking with the manager, who patiently listened to me b***h about how FutureShop let me down and didn’t inform me that the drop date was changed.

The manager apologized and said that their system didn’t have the ability to send out notifications when drop dates changed. I demanded a discount (which he said he couldn’t give me – but, hey, I had to try). He encouraged me to write to their complaint department because he too felt that they should have sent out an email to inform customers that there was a change in delivery dates. He also told me that I was the fifth person he’d talked that day to about the delay.

I’m hoping that the FutureShop ‘delay’ email refers to a delay from the original date of December 5th. And that the 20th is now their new drop date. This would also jive with Asus’ statement that deliveries will start the week of the 19th.

According to the FutureShop website, my keyboard dock is still slated for December 16th. If so, I’m going to be one sad puppy on the 16th with a TF201 dock and no tablet :(

  • robotchickensoup

@John Bella: Weird that only some would receive the email. I also got the email from futureshop so this is real. Check your spam folder?

Anyway, just hope it comes next week or at least before the new year!

  • guessmyname

Maybe apple started the rumor to get more apple bots to join the cult! Don’t drink the koolaid folks!

  • Pat

This product will not be available before Christmas. It’s a terrible launch date after Christmas but that’s what will happen. Don’t expect to see any available till February. Cuz January stores don’t get much new stuff, while they do inventory and stuff. This will be impossible to find for a few months and then maybe if you go into a store by March you’ll lucky. In other words, there’s better tablets gona be out by then. I really wanted this, but the more time goes, the more they lose sales.

  • Gary

I received a $25.00 voucher for the Prime & another $25.00 voucher for the dock from Future Shop. For $50.00 I can wait a month.

  • B

I spoke with a friend who works at Best Buy and their systems here in Canada still have a release date of December 22, 2011. This was also confirmed when I contacted Future Shop about the email I received on the pre-order. So take it for what its worth, it will probably ship the 22nd just don’t expect it for Christmas.

  • Shane

I called staples minutes ago. The lady on the phone told me she doesn’t know the exact date. I did not get any notification email.

  • Sharkie

I called Staples too. The guy told me the shipment is delayed, but no further information on when the tablet be available.

  • Darryl

I also pre-ordered from Futureshop and have not received an email saying it is delayed (I checked my junk mail too). My order page still shows Dec 20. Hopefully it is still going to get out before Christmas but I am not holding my breath.

  • Mike

Maybe they forgot to add “eh” to our dictionaries…

  • Matty

I like the super careful wording in the email.

  • Gary

Just received the email from BB.

  • Mike

Just got my BB notification as well.

  • gambit

sweeeeeeeeetttttt!!!!!!! i rarely check my emails, if it weren’t for this article i wouldn’t have known about my 25$ thanks =D

  • Jadis

Too bad no 25$ credit from Staples’ pre-order, because they didn’t ever give any word about deliver day.

  • Gary

I presume most of you here have not followed the Prime news closely so I will explain the situation:

There was indeed a point of time where there was a wifi problem. However, we do not know how it has or will affect the release date / stock. Perhaps this Canadian only delay is because they routed all our stock to the US.

This was not spread by a troll or a Apple fanboy. I received the same email from BB today and I called them to confirm it.

Maybe if Asus were to give us some information it would be better. But no, all they do is praise their products.

  • Aret

Hey People, Ive been dying for this tablet & I was so very lucky to be able to pre order one ONLY about 7 days ago! Their was 1 unit always coming & going out of stock! haha :) So I Grabbed it immediately! I had the feeling from couple of weeks ago that there was going to be a delay with this item & I ended up being right. The item is just TOO HOT & Future SHop & Best Buy probably downplayed how much stock they would need as their pre-orders filled up very fast.. Anyways, I just received and email from this 5:05pm TODAY & heres what it reads below & if you notice its quite different than the ones posted on here:

    Dear Aret Cagliuzu,

On your recent visit to BestBuy.ca you pre-ordered the Asus Transformer Prime Tablet (Web ID: 10186527). We’ve recently been informed by Asus that there are unexpected delays in receiving the products and as a result, are unable to ship them on the date originally planned. We’re sorry to be the bearer of this news; however, we will contact you as soon as we hear about the updated release date from Asus.

Please accept our e-certificate gift of $25 to use towards a future purchase with Best Buy. Your e-certificate code is:

ASUSTP-6t143X7 <–I changed this ofcourse! haha

If you have any questions, or would like to cancel your order, please contact customer service at 1-866-237-8289.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to sending you the Asus tablet and keyboard when they’re ready to launch in Canada.

    Sincerely,

    BestBuy.ca

SO ALL THIS because theyre not goin to be able to ship it on the 20th but the 22nd due to shipment delays from ASUS????

    • Gary

      @Aret

Where did you get the date of 22nd? If it was just a two day delay I bet BB would just change it without giving you a coupon. I emailed them and they said Asus has not given them an updated ETA and I called to double check that and they told me I definitely won’t get it before Christmas.

  • samer

this doesnt make sense, i think someones just messing up big time. How on earth are the ‘canadian bound ones’ affected
but the USA ones are just fine and still on track, and ASUS already denined thsi wifi rumor there.

were asus like ‘hey lets put a s**t wifi antenna in the tablets going to canada only and mark them with this symbol!’

    Just not buying it.

  • Matt

I have been waiting for this thing for over a month now. I first went on nov 7 to see If they were getting it on the 9th and they said yes. Then they said the 5th,22nd,20th. Can you guys PLEASE get your act together. I am planning on getting one down in the states next week.

  • DPort

I also received the same email from Best Buy last night. However, when I checked their website today, they are now accepting pre-orders again and stating that it is expected in their warehouse on December 20th!? This is a change since yesterday! What is up??!

  • Shane

If I could not get it within the next week, I will cancel it. and wait until it upgrades to ICS.

  • Android Guy

I never got this email from Future Shop and I have had my pre order in for a while now.

Future Shop has emailed me a number of times keeping me up to date on my order by they have not sent me this email.

Also the I would think the email would be a little different as probably not everyone ordered the keyboard.

  • Gary

It seems like they are routing all the Canadian orders to the US first because of stock issues. Even the smaller retailers in US are getting the delayed because their stock is being routed to the bigger US retailers.

Asus just gave Canada the middle finger

Well now we all know what to email Asus.

  • Matt

My local computer shop said that the release date to Canadian suppliers is pegged for December 23. So while they are technically out before Christmas, it’s unlikely they’ll be in the hands of retailers until the week after.

  • AndroidPhan042

Got my email from BB overnight. No indication as to when it is expected to ship. Dern! Was hoping to have this in hand for a trip.

  • Droidmaster

If Asus is going to delay for so long, then at least finish ICS for it.

  • VBR

I have pre-ordered transformer prime with best buy and I received the following message yesterday

    Dear XXXXXX,

It was a really hard choice which tablet toy to buy for my wife as Xmas present – iPad2 or Asus Prime.
Now it’s simple – no Prime available:)
I wonder haw many million people do the same.
    Epic fail from ASUS

  • Hyzz

Agree completely with Peter asus you fail

  • Topher

It will be well worth the wait. I just sold off my ipad 2 to get in-line for a prime. I’d consider myself a pretty big gadget freak and I’d say that the ipad 2 was one of the most over rated pieces of tech I’d ever held in my hands.

  • Gary

If nVidia went with Samsung instead we would’ve gotten the first quad-core tablet last month and not just a shitload of useless tweets from Asus.

  • Gary

People in US starting to receive shipping notifications. We dont get s**t

  • Charmddd

It irks me that BestBuy would pull a prank like this in order to liquidate many more alternate tablets from their shelves prior to Christmas. They know that this ASUS tablet is red hot and customers will wait to get their hands on one. By telling us customers who initially pre-ordered that the date is indeterminate allows them to sell millions of dollars more in substitutes.

I can’t stand greedy retailers like BestBuy. I think I will boycott them and do all of my purchasing online across the border to those US vendors who are NOT Futureshop or Bestbuy.
