It’s expected that Apple will be announcing the next iPhone on October 4th. This is still a rumour just like all the upgraded specs. However, a good sign that brings truth to the rumour, and that Canadians will be getting the new iPhone, is an email to some Fido employees of an upcoming blackout period. The email states that “Due to a major phone launch in starting weeks of Q4, Fido employees are in blackout from October 4, 2011 to November 31, 2011 to help with the increase of traffic and sales”. The email also says “this launch is expected to be the largest in history”. Granted, November 31st doesn’t exist and there’s no direct mention that this is the next iPhone, but similar blackout periods happened with the iPhone 4.
We’ll have more info soon!
(Thanks tipster!)
“blackout from October 4, 2011 to November 31, 2011″
I think they should let the employees take a day off on November 31 the very least.

A blackout period is a “kiss your vacation goodbye” period.

LOL that is a good thing
. I waited for the iPhone 4 outside the eatons center last year & honestly out of 400 that waited that night only 15 waited after we were allowed to go inside the mall at 6am at the Fido store outside. People mostly go to the Apple Store. Lets hope Rogers / Fido / Bell / Telus & the rest get a a lot of them this year.
I love tho that Fidos email got leaked out before any other carrier in Canada

November 31st huh? I guess that in addition reprogramming people on how to hold a phone, they are now attempting to reconfigure how we use a calendar as well.

I wonder if Apple is going to be keeping all of their Stock this year again for themselves for Q4 like they did last year.. and not provide any to the carriers until Jan 1st.

With Fido (and Rogers) current upgrade policy, to get new customer pricing, one would have to have last upgraded/renewed before April 2009. That will leave a lot of people that upgraded to iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 out in the cold for this launch.
My guess is that Fido/Rogers will allow some some people to early upgrade, possible for an extra fee of $100-$200. They might even look like the good guy by doing so.

It’s got to be something more than just the iPhone. Maybe the iPhone + some new plan (unlimited data? Nation wide/zone free city fido?). If it’s just the iPhone then I can’t really see this being a substantially larger launch than the last iPhone.

Maybe fido thinks the voice assistant in ios5 is so impressive that everyone will be compelled to upgrade? Personally I’d love for it to be the prime, but I’ve never seen a carrier try to hype an android device like they do for apple.

Did anyone see the part where it said “any existing time off will be cancelled.”??? Poor Fido employees. It’s a sad day when these corporations can take back time off that they’ve granted to their employees because a new iPhone is coming. What if an employee booked an expensive Euro vacation? I’d tell my boss where they can put that new shipment of iPhones…

@Dexter
When you work in a mobile retail store it states that the company has any right to remove you time off requests in the contract that you sign. It also states ot on our time off request.
