MTS prepping to release the Nexus S

Last week we let you know that Rogers placed the Nexus S on the discontinued list, which could mean a new Nexus is en route. However, picking up where Rogers left of is regional carrier MTS. We’ve been informed that the Nexus S and all its Google Android pureness will be launching “in the coming weeks” (MTS receives discontinued Rogers devices). No prices have been relayed on to us but this will be a great addition to their lineup.

More soon!
(Thanks tipster!)

    • Read the article first. It says here ( MTS receive discounted Rogers devices) it’s not that late to be honest. Like I said in other topics. People aren’t waiting adous for new phones that take years to come out. People want phones. So if MTS releases this I am sure people will buy it

  2. This phone is available just about everywhere for $0 on a 3 year plan. I bet it will not be $0 with MTS.

  4. It is not too late for MTS. Check out their quote, unquote android phones. Yikes! This is now the best phone that MTS will offer.

  5. That phone has a lot of unresolved problems and zero support from samsung, rogers or google – it should be removed from the market rather than not to an unsuspecting client base

  6. Sadly, the Nexus S is already obsolete. By the time MTS releases this, it will be DOA. It just can’t compete with the the iPhone 5, Nexus Prime as well as the Samsung Hercules. :(

    • It isn’t obsolete. It is a far better phone than 70-80% of the Android devices on the Canadian market. It isn’t “cutting edge”, but it is a smoking deal for the right price. I have a Nexus S as my daily phone, and I’m very happy with it (aside from the “voice search” issue which flares up from time to time).

It is very easy to root, and it runs CyanogenMod 7.1 like a champ. I wouldn’t pay $500 for it, but it is a much better phone than a LG Optimus One (or similar).

    • Good luck with that. Nexus S launched in Canada almost 5 months after the US. We will be lucky to see another Nexus device in Canada before next spring.

  9. This phone is really fantastic. Everyone here is crapping on it but I had to get one due to the fact my milestone died on me. It is cheap on the used market (and pretty cheap brand new at some places), it is pure android goodness without any carrier or manufacturer bloatware, it gets updated first, it is unlocked, and it can be easily modded to increase its benchmark scores (if that is what you base a phones abilities on) to the point that it is faster than even some of the dual cores (moto, lg and htc, not gsII).

I have found it silky smooth and a joy to use with no problems running anything on it. I have had no issues with this phone as of yet, so if you need a great phone for cheaper price, it is a sweet piece of kit.

  10. This phone is amazing and its faster and more reliable than most dual core phones out there. Anything a dual core does i can do it on my nexus s … Grabbed a HTC sensation and it was too laggy for me, Lg Optimus 2x was too buggy(reboots etc), And the atrix is still too slow after its latest update.

  14. I just ordered a unlocked Nexus S yesterday for myself. I debated if I shoud have waited for a new Nexus, but figured the price will be even more expensive whenever it goes on sale.

Besides, I just wanted a phone that runs Android, good battery life, cheap price and a few bells & whistles to play with.

  15. For good battery life, you should install juice defender from the market because the Nexus S doesn’t have a great battery life out of the box. I have a Nexus S and I love it, nothing beats pure android.

  18. seems that every 6 months or so the rumors fly about new android phones at mts but it never happens. mts now only has 1 droid for sale, the motorola spice. mts needs to get it’s act together… do they not realize they are missing out on a huge market, not everyone wants a bb or icrap
