HTC Flyer launching in Canada for $499.99

It’s been anticipated for months that the Wi-Fi version of the HTC Flyer will be available to Canadians, but we can finally say this tablet is actually coming really soon. We’re still waiting on hearing what the official launch date is but HTC’s first Android tablet will hit retail locations across Canada for $499.99 outright. From what we understand the Flyer will come with OS 2.3.3 Gingerbread, have a 7-inch display, 1.5 GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera with a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video calling. No word yet on the complete distribution but most likely it’ll be at all the usual retail outlets and big box stores.

More soon!
(Thanks tipster!)

  1. “Flyer” makes it sound like an advertisement.

  2. Too little too late. Much better tablets already are on the Canadian market.

    • I wouldn’t say it’s too late, but rather too pricey compared what’s available.

The Transformer cost $100 less and has better hardware.

Also we don’t know if the Canadian Flyer will come with the Stylus so if it doesn’t that’s another $80 whereas that extra cost with the Transformer Plus the savings from the tablet is more than enough to get you the dock which is a superior accessory.

    • If it make HTC some money, it’s never late.

The 10″ tablets are plenty, but in the 7″ segment, this device is second in processing power only to the PlayBook, albeit a completely different OS.

  4. That’s a Source screenshot with a Bell/Virgin SKU attached to it. Save your money.

  6. No interest in this device what so ever. HTC has higher specced, more interesting phones available.

    • @Jay –

Why would you get a tablet to replace your phone? This is device compliments your existing equipment. Most people who buys tablets already own a desktop and/or laptop.

  7. Its not a bell/virgin specific sku, just a wireless device sku in the tablet range. our HTC Rep said the flyer was going to national retail chains, like futureshop, best buy, source, etc before going to carriers.

  10. This is the ultimate travellers tablet. I have had this tablet now since May, and I just came back to the states from a 2 week Canadian trip across the Rockies and Vancouver. This tablet was all I had in terms of a internet device. What purposes it served: 1) Fast hibernate boot-up of 5 secs 2) Built-in GPS works great w/ Google Maps/Navigator. The GPS chip picks up satellites faster then my Garmin GPS 3) Browser is fast and had no problems displaying pages 4) HTC Sense UI has built-in time/location, as well as weather updates 5) Most Android Market apps scales fine on the 7″ screen(Plants vs Zombies was my go to game the whole time)

    • And of course, the 7″ form factor of the Flyer made it so much easier and portable vs 10″ tablets, I always had the tablet handy in my backpack.
