Toshiba Thrive Android 3.1 tablet now available to pre-order, estimated release date is August 12th

Another tablet is almost upon us Canada… the Toshiba Thrive runs Android OS 3.1 Honeycomb and is now up for pre-order at Future Shop. This looks like it will be available on August 12th and as expected will retail for the following prices: 8GB version for $429; 16GB version for $479 and a 32GB version for $579.

A month ago Toshiba stated that this will be called the “Toshiba Tablet”, but has opted to follow the United States in their branding of the 10.1-inch tablet. Specs have it coming with a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, Wi-Fi a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video calling and a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, weighs a bit on the hefty side at 750 grams and has a battery life of 7 hours. Something that makes this a bit unique and sets it apart from all the other Android tablets is that the back cover can be replaced and you can changes colour: Blue Moon, Raspberry Fusion, Lavender Bliss, Silvery Sky and Green Apple are all the flavours to choose from.

  1. Umm, interchangeable back plates make this unique? I’m more interested in the fact that it supports fullsized hdmi and usb connections and has an SD card slot.

  2. Isn’t 7 hours battery life a bit substandard for a 10″ tablet?

  3. Isn’t the xoom supposed to be 499 now? How is the 32 gb version of this competitive?

  4. There are so many diff tablets right now, who really cares? They’re not laptops/netbooks, they’re also not phones, just in between, who wants these things?

  7. There is far more to this tablet than replaceable covers. The battery is user replaceable. And it features full sized HDMI port to connect to TVs or monitors using regular HDMI cables, a full USB 2.0 port for adding in peripherals like USB keyboards or mice and a full sized SD card slot.
