MTS to release the Motorola Spice and Nokia Surge

Manitobans – are you excited for MTS to launch their new “4G” network on March 31st? It’s been a long time coming and we’re into single digit countdown now. The known devices that will be available at launch (or shortly after) are the following: BlackBerry Bold 9780, Torch 9780, Curve 9300, Apple iPhone 4, Nokia C6-00. Today MTS also stated they will also be adding the Nokia Surge and another Android-powered device, the Motorola SPICE their lineup.

MTS has been quiet on the device price plans and also have not announced any promotional monthly voice or data plans.

  1. Fail. Couldn’t they get a good Android device instead of the Spice?

  2. USELESS! MTS still thinks that Blackberry will rule the world forever. Android is taking over, so gimme something good! Bell gets the Atrix, we get… the Spice? Not even the Milestone 2, the Spice. COME ON MTS! How about the Samsung Galaxy S Pro (Epic in the U.S.)? Or something from HTC? Are you trying to chase me away to Telus or Rogers? Another useless announcement from MTS. So disappointed. Here’s hoping they come through with a big one before the 31st.

    • They also need the 1900 MHz band I think.

    • They will obviously have a 850/1900 HSPA device manufactured.

    • Yep…the Surge is almost two years old now considering its AT&T release date in the summer of 2009.

  9. MTS never said Iphone 4 is available at launch.. I actually doubt it will be. Iphone 4 is just “coming soon” and that’s all their allowed to say.

  10. I am getting really disappointed at MTS. At 10 days away from launch there is no information on plans, the selection has a lot to wish for, and they are not even promoting the new network aggressively, which I assumed they were going to. I really don’t understand why can’t they promote the new network, better phones and some idea of the plans.

  11. Plans are still the same including unlimited data for all these devices.

New offering though of : 34.99/29.99 Bundled for a package with 200 weekday mins, 250mb of Data, pick 5 and eve/wknds @ 6pm.

4 Service bundle credit will apply to all new devices as well.

Keep in mind, this is the 1st wave of handsets being launched. Samsung Galaxy handsets are in testing however, text doesn’t work in the US yet which is reason for push back.

  12. As one mts customer stated re the iPhone 4 – why no arrival date already? Mts has more coverage than Telus but tempted to switch after reading customer comments. Why no new Htc devices?

  13. Okay, so I myself am an MTS dealer employee.

    Here is the low down.

iphone is coming. Soon. Unfortunately, Apple is making us be very hush hush about a release date for the device. Thats just how they are right now.
NOT TO MENTION the iphone is hands down the single most overrated smartphone ever. Nothing too special about it, so instead of waiting for a phone that you dont actually know why you want it, do research instead of jumping on a bandwagon.

New HTC’s will be in the 2nd wave of hspa devices along with a bunch of other sweeet sweet android devices as well as some wp7. Trust me when I say there is great stuff on the horizon.

  14. No HTC devices because Rogers and HTC are having a spate that goes back to the Magic and Dream days on Rogers….LOL MTS will always take a year and a day to release anything, do not count on them to be fast and respond to customer wants and needs!!!

  15. Do Not Want!!!

Why do they insist on bringing in the slowest Android phones with the worst battery life. First the Hero, then the slightly better Milestone and now a step backwards with the SPICE. How about a phone that runs faster than 550MHz?
