Report: Smartphone shipments increased 67% in 2010


Following up to the IDC report about mobile phone shipments increasing 17.9% in Q4 is yet another set of stats that takes aim at smartphones. Strategy Analytics have announced in their report that Smartphone made up 24% of all handsets shipped and hit 94 million in Q4 2010 (up a massive 75% from the year before). Grouping 2010 together shows smartphone shipments rose 67% to 293 million units shipped (up from 175 million) with the top 3 manufacturers being Nokia, RIM and Apple. Strategy Analytics also noted that the top 3 combined market share dropped 6% to 67% due to Android-powered devices.
