Last March the CBC did a piece called “Canada’s Worst Cellphone Bill“. It went into detail about several Canadians who had for one reason or another high monthly cellphone charges. They had over 1,000 submissions and the top of their list was a whopping $6,000 bill. Since airing that program we’ve seen many high monthly bills – one that comes to mind was Calgary resident Jason Boutang who went to France and forgot to get a roaming package and used his iPhone to stream a Calgary rock radio station… his bill went as high as $8,000.
The CBC Marketplace is back this year and looking once again to find out who has Canada’s Worst Cellphone Bill. They state on their website they are “looking for 60 bills from the big three cell phone companies: Rogers, Bell, and Telus”. No reason is given as to why the CBC is only looking at the Big 3 and not the new entrants such as Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, Public Mobile or even Videotron, SaskTel or MTS. Even though some of them offer Unlimited plans there could be at least one huge bill between them. If you’re looking to find out Canada’s Worst Cellphone Bill it would be good to include all the carriers.
Anyway, you can take a copy of your paper to the CBC atrium this Friday between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and “an expert on hand who might be able to tell you what the problem is with your bill, and maybe have an idea on how to save money or even find a better deal”.
