There are not that many secrets left for the unannounced Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone (“Xperia Play”). This will most likely become official in February at the Mobile World Congress. In the meantime a full review has surfaced online by Taiwanese website ePrice. They capture images from every possible angle in great detail and also show off a couple videos.
As for specs, once again it’s shown running Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread, has a 1GHz processor, 4-inch display (looks like it gets a great deal of fingerprints) with a resolution of 854 x 480, slide-out Sony PSP gaming controls (four arrow keys: triangle/square/circle/cross) along with a touchpad in the middle, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB port… also packing a 1,500mAh battery. As for dimensions, ePrice says the device measures 12 cm tall and 10cm when open.
Hopefully one of these will pop up on eBay soon.

I dont know why so many people downrated this – it’s a valid statement considering this looks to be a gaming device. If someone TODAY release a core 2 duo machine advertised as a gaming rig (desktop/laptop) you’d say wheres the i5/i7? where the sandy bridge?
not that you need the fastest processor to play angry birds but for gaming devices you don’t want any device to be obsolete as soon as it drops…

Could not agree more. The 8255 is no longer a next gen processor, considering that the Tegra 2 is out and Snapdragon will be releasing their Dual Core CPU soon as well.
A gaming phone should have gaming specs if it wants to compete in the market with products like the Motorola Atrix or LG Optimus X2.
Why do you fail so much, Sony? Do you even listen to your consumers or at least have a proper idea of what the consumer wants? Your phones look great, but they’re over-priced, bloated with s**t we don’t need that bogs down the OS, and have hardware deficiencies (no multi-touch in 2010? really?)

Hmm… I would think that it would make for a better design to have the screen switch to landscape mode when the controller is slid out.

Gotta love it when it gets reviewed even before it's announced

I wouldn’t buy it. honestly this is like throwing away your camera because you have a camera integrated into your phone. I don’t like the idea. and the controller is adding massive bulkiness to the phone.
that is a personal opinion though.

McDonalds, home of the leaked PSP PHONE. Ha ha
I all seriousness, sony also blew the PSP go launch as well, that was leaked way before it was announced at E3.

I would rather grab an xperia arc when that hits the shelves later this year. With rumors abound that the psp 2 will also be released late this year there’s no need for a hybrid phone/gaming system

i can see this device only for the really intense gamer. I have an android phone and a psp. i dont want/need to use both at the same time.

Why on earth is this thing not running a Tegra 2? Its pretty bad when phones like the Atrix will have far better gaming because they have the horsepower under the hood. Buttons might give it the look of a great gaming device, but thats it.

It looks like a great device. Hopefully it stays up to date, and since it will have dedicated gaming, that’d be great! If it could run PS1 games from the PSN store and MINIS, that’d be good.
