    Then buying an unlock code…
    Then switching my plan…

BUT THEN, THE GLORY OF THE DESIRE!

  6. That is a fantastic no contract price!
Hell, the price for the 3-year contract is pretty ‘Incredible’ as well. Hopefully this will see a nice big boost in Android adoption in Canada.
Still, I’ve got no regrets about being impatient and paying a bit more for the Nexus One since I’m finally free of contracts and I’ve got froyo.

  8. Telus’ website says about the 3-year contract price:

“‡ Available until August 3, 2010, for clients who activate or renew on a 3 year term with a Voice and Data rate plan of $50 or greater, or on a BlackBerry Social or BlackBerry Email & IM rate plan. TELUS reserves the right to modify eligible rate plans with this offer at any time without advance notice.”

    Error?

Most are money-back guarantee and are highly reputable.

  19. Yeah, I just went to the store here in Moncton NB, and she hadn’t seen them yet. She said they were supposed to be in last Tuesday. She told me to call back around 11 and they may be on the truck, but she wasn’t sure.

And a friend of mine was in the telus shop in Summerside PEI, and they said it was supposed to be released yesterday, but no phones yet.

The other store didn’t have any in his shipment.

Not looking good. I guess I’ll have to order by phone if this keeps up.

  33. @tracks mobileincanada is full of crap, they can’t actually unlock all the devices they list. I know so because I asked about numerous devices on Bell and Telus and they did not have codes for any. Possibly because they are so new to the SIM game, they don’t have unlocks for them yet. If you really want to know if something is unlockable, just message a few popular unlockers on ebay, they’ll respond quickly, and for cheaper than mobileincanada. I used unlockplanet@gmail.com for my X10, $4.48US.

If you call up store downtown they will just say they don’t have it yet instead of telling you the true. They expect this to be fixed today, but that may go up to monday according to some store. the wait is not over!

Went through the checkout process and it seems you can purchase it for $79 with a 3-year-contract WITHOUT a data plan. Everyone I talked to today *guessed* that this wouldn’t be possible, but talking with a Telus rep during checkout confirmed (after saying it wasn’t possible) that it was.

I bought my BB pearl almost 3 years ago without a data plan. They forced one on me though 6 months later saying it was a glitch in the system.

So you got one at Bayshore? I’ll be heading there after work I guess if the one closer to me still can’t. Did they have a good number?

  88. I’ve been talking with our corporate accounts rep as well as a local dealer with a couple of Android savy guys for the past couple of months waiting for the Desire. In Halifax the Telus reps seem to be in the dark about the release just as much (or more so) than the rest of us.

Our corporate guy was surprised about the launch on the website when I emailed him this morning as he checked 5 mins before and there was no update . He told me he didn’t have any devices yet but would call after their regular shipment came in today. Shipment came and no Desire’s.

Two of the guys at the local Telus shop are anxiously waiting too and they have no idea when they will be in. They said hopefully early next week. I was really hoping to have a new toy for this weekend :(

  94. TELUSsupport on Twitter just told me this:

“I am not sure what is going on there. I do know some dealers haven’t recieved their shipment yet.”

“If they haven’t they should be getting some in this afternoon. You can also order online or over the phone with us.”

  95. Scoured every store in the Bay/Dundas area and finally found one at BestBuy. FS was out, the Telus stores (4 total) either didn’t have it in stock or had it but couldn’t sell it (??).

Got hooked up on their awesome new student $55 plan: 200 minutes, 6pm unlimited evenings and weekends, 1 GB data, my10 nationwide unlimited call/text, unlimited text sent/received, and voicemail.

The girl at Bestbuy had to call in to get Telus to add the student plan since it didn’t show up as available in the system. She had to talk to two different people. First said it wasn’t available on this phone, so she tried again and the second added it for me. So far looks like a great phone. Good luck to those still looking!

Even though there is no minimum plan/data requirements for the Desire, I am not allowed to keep my retention plan. I have to choose a currently available crap Voice plan that is listed in their website. If that new voice plan is at least $40, I get to keep my retention freebies, otherwise no freebies…

  105. I tried for the few stores around Yonge and Dundas- Best Buy said they wouldn’t sell it outright yet “But when they get more stock in next week, we will.” 2 Telus stores in Eaton centre had about 20 in total available, and I didn’t feel like walking back and forth between them as they solved their inventory issues. I just bought online at Telus and online chat said it would be shipped within 2-5 days.

  110. I have one in the store, but I cannot buy it yet because Telus is still having issues with the promo’s for the student 55, but I am getting free caller ID and a bonus 100 daytime minutes. Caller ID was the only thing the student 55 plan was missing so now it is golden!

minutes, evenings free starting at 6, 10th unlimited calling faves, unlimited family calling, and unlimited text. The perfect pairing for this phone.

  123. it seems the Telus has put themselves into
a position that happened a few years to another
Company with a new release….all talk and only
    very little action…..an enormous release
    f**k-up.
The only reason that they released the iPhone4
when they did because they were pressured
to do so when Bell actually stated a date about
    a release.
With the HTC Desire, Telus is doing what they want….sadd….very sadd to see a telecom
company treat their customers and future
    customers like dirt!!!!!

But i wanted the banana crazy plan (50$ with 1gb, and other stuff) and didn’t want to wait until next wednesday (halifax sucks) because i wouldn’t get the plan. I ordered online and that was pretty good, no problems there. Says it will ship between 1-3 busisness days, which is the same time they will get it in store… You could check at best buy (dartmouth crossing), they might have it…

So far ive heard the root is not yet possible due to the fact that the new lcd screen code hasnt been released yet and that people were having no luck unlocking

BTW the s-lcd does a good job, i agree that its not the super amoled but the desire does better then expexted so farl

but not its 49.99, on sale to 39.99, then 50% discount giving 19.99

either way, still cheaper then when I tried at Ming wireless for 25, got incorrect code, and gave me a 30 quote from his “other” source.

  157. Bought mine at the Telus outlet at Brentwood Mall in Burnaby. Tried the Galaxy S at the Bell Kiosk in the hall about 20 ft from the Telus outlet. Loved the screen on the Galaxy S but otherwise was a bit under-whelmed with the fit and finish of it. To me it felt a bit on the “flimsy” side. The Desire on the other hand just felt a lot better in the hand. Either seemed like a good choice though…..
