If you’ve been holding out for the Samsung Galaxy you’ve only got a couple more days. Want even more good news? Well, Bell has priced this for $149.95 on a 3-year and $499.95. Pretty decent pricing for an Android 2.1 device that is going head-to-head with the new iPhone 4. Personally, I’m looking forward to checking out the 4-inch Super AMOLED display.
This will officially be available on August 6th. Check it here at Bell
(Thanks to everyone who sent this in!)
Interesting… I was going to pay for a 32gb Rogers iPhone 4, but now I’m very tempted to cancel my Rogers contract, and pick up one of these bad boys.

ugh, if Rogers doesn’t release Captivate soon enough, I’m gonna get Bell’s Galaxy S.
Is there any disadvantage for not having all the four Android buttons?

Does anyone know if you can get a BASIC I mean just a no frills voice plan through bell and add on the 6gb data plan? I talk only 25 minutes a month on my phone, i don’t really text, and I don’t need early evenings and weekends.
So? Any suggestions?

Good price, although I don’t think that this is the official “Vibrant” in the U.S. this model is known only as the “S” and the the Vibrant comes with Amazon Kindle, mobitv, Sims 3 and the movie Avatar pre-loaded.

The official T-Mobile “Vibrant” in the US is also AWS, making it compatible with Wind but not Bell. Clearly not extactly the same phone, but of the four Galaxy S variants this has the same design as the T-Mobile Vibrant. Good pricing and I’d take this in a heartbeat over the iPhone. 4 inch AMOLED for the win!

Now I’m only wondering how long it will take before this one gets unlocked. I want one and I’m on Rogers…

Yes and it comes with 16gb internal memory, my gf bought one yesterday at Best Buy. The screen is the best and it takes the best pics of a phone ive ever seen despite being only 5MP, better quality that HTCs 8 MP cameras!

Starting to look like Telus has made the choice for me. Think I’ll be look at this rather than the desire.

What are the data speeds on this device? Will this device handle 21 Mb/s? or will it only push through to abound 7 MB/s or so?

I am with Rogers just our of the contract for a few months. They used to have a better product line, but now Bell & Telus are equally good or sometimes better in phone selection, glad that I am now free to join anyone, but also a real headache which new phone to get, so many out there, hesitate for a month then another new phone comes out ! ha.

But it has no LED Flash. When is Pro coming out?

Does a LED Flash even matter? All the phones that I have had one has been useless. Camera phones just suck in dark conditions.

Nova Scotia, specifically Dartmouth Crossing…they had 3 yesterday and we got the last one. The guy said he knew for a week that the launch day for them was the 3rd. Weird eh?

@Ivan…dont be so quick…I’m finding that the Samsung UI is lagging even with the 1gz processor, sometimes freezing. Minus the screen and camera on this thing, the Desire is better.

Hopefully unlock codes will be available from the get go. Anyone know if MobileInCanada will have them on Friday?

certainly worth considering…my contract expires in 2 weeks and I’m debating whether I should go for this, or the HTC Desire…hmmm…any suggestions people?

@ Matthew – I’ve been reading that if you remove some of the Sammy Apps like “daily briefing” that you might not get the lag you are describing

@ Matthew and LOCKPICK
I’ve heard much better things about HTC’s Sense UI running 2.1 than Samsung’s, so point to Desire, but once they’re rooted I’d load up a vanilla 2.2 rom anyway. In an age of custom roms I think hardware and size of dev community are what matter, and imo the Galaxy has the edge.

@Matthew – Reviews of lag and spontanious freezing (and my personnal dislike for the look of the phone itself) are my reasons for choosing the Desire. I’m just getting tired of “tommorrow”, “maybe in a week or two.” The Desire is the phone I want, but I’m starting to tip towards voting my disapproval of Telus with my money.

hmm i was hoping less than that but I guess thats not bad. I wish Canada had 2year deals not 3years like US and Korea

For those with slowness issues, I think when 2.2 rolls in that will go away.
For me it boils down to sturdyness/build quality. I’m hard on my phones and I’ll need to play with both to see whether the better display on the Sammy outweighs the desire’s build quality. (I haven’t tried either yet)

At XDA forums they have a fix for the lag and also a budding ROM community as well. I can see custom ROMs in the future for the Galaxy as well.

Best Buy, Kanata, ON – They didn’t have a model on display (the sweet circle thing), they did have onein the cupboard with an empty battery. Great! They then tried to show me the Sammy Wave, again no juice. Useless BB.

I was at Best Buy in Hamilton (Ancaster) this past weekend and was surprised to find a real Galaxy S on display. The display wasn’t finished yet but the salesman told me it was on Bell and would be released “soon”.

@yha, holding the settings button should bring up search. So it effectively has all the Android buttons.
As for TouchWiz lag, you can root and flash a fixed ROM if you have problems or you can try Launcher Pro/ADW Launcher if you don’t want to root/hate TouchWiz.

Any news on if this phone will be unlockable yet? I am debating between this and Desire. I am on Rogers so I am hoping this will be unlocked very soon

I did my homework for the last couple of months. I just came back from BestBuy where I tried the demo. And went to a “boutique Bell” to see how much it will cost me. So, Friday I’m pulling the trigger on this smartphone. Can’t wait!

@SP, so you’re not using your N1 because you don’t like Android 2.1… you do realize that 2.2 was released, don’t you? It’s a substantial improvement.

There is a fix (google it) online already for the lag…
What is it, launcher pro also i’ve seen noted to get the thing into uber snappy mode.
while it’s only the gpu, 90million triangles per second is just an awesome display of power. go find some of the benchmarks on that.
I can’t wait!

Just played with one in BB, screen is amazing, however they didn’t have any connectivity so couldn’t do much. Very iCloneish in look and feel, even keyboard …still liked it.

i might just end up getting this on tha weekend..
After playing with tha wave, i So want a SUPER AMOLED Display!! OMG they are Sick!!!
i will most likely wait untill tha desire is launched on telus & unless i see how users of bell Galaxy S are feeling, before i take tha plunge.
As much as i hate Samsung & love HTC, i need a large Display & high end specs… its Only that Super AMOLED Display that got me Hard-on for tha GalaxyS over tha Desire…
LMFAO
Oh and we can only thank samsung for tha delay in telus launching tha desire, Due to them Slowing / haulting production of AMOLED Displays to produce Super AMOLEDs for there own devices, Forcing HTC to go to Sony for Displays…
For that reason i may boycott this, but that may change once i see that beast…

There are postings on the internet about the galaxy having GPS and compass issues. You might want to check these postings before you buy. They are saying that there is a “work around” but it is not a fix. Not sure if I am going to buy or not now based on these issues.

for me I think I’ll will wait to see canadian reports on the noted issues…..gps on galaxy vs multi touch on desire.
maybe they will be fixed for our release (yn)

Bell has crippled the Galaxy S (i.e. the “Vibrant”) into a dual-band HSDPA phone. That killed it for me. Here’s hoping Rogers don’t do that with their “Captivate.”

They have a working model in the Bell Store, St.Laurent Mall, Ottawa. Have to ask about it as it’s not on display yet.
