Well, here’s an interesting turn of events in the competitive Canadian monthly plan deals.
It’s never too late to show up to the party and we’ve obtained an internal doc that shows TELUS has just decided to launch this offer: “BONUS 5GB Data on Clear Choice Voice & Data plans $65 or greater”.
The doc breaks it down:
“Clients can simply choose any existing Clear Choice Voice and Data plan $65 or greater and they will automatically get BONUS 5GB with a new 3 year activation on any phone of their choice. That’s a minimum of 6GB with no additional cost to the client!
BONUS 5GB at no cost to the client
+ Minimum of 1GB (included in the plan)
= Minimum 6GB in total
The promo goes until October 5th and you’ll have to sign a 3-year contract. In addition, they’ve also decided to waive the activation fee until August 2nd. If the iPhone is not for you this document says it’s “Available to all phones” and “can be combined with other in-market promotions”.
You like? Check it out after the break

Bonus meaning not part of your rate plan and can be taken away at any time.
24 hours late and full of fail.

Yeah I don’t really like this plan at all. I used to absolutely love telus and Dislike bell, but it look’s like the roles have reversed
At least I still hate rogers.

This would be perfect on the $50 plan.

I believe, but stand to be corrected, that you get to keep the 6GB data plan on Rogers & Bell as long as you wish. It sounds the TELUS plan is set up like their loyalty freebies; with an expiry at the end of three years.
Not sure on this one, will definitely have to look into it more closely once it’s officially released.

This really ticks me off. I have that exact plan and i got it when i signed up in February for my milestone and now i can’t get the extra 5gb……

This is amazing. Rogers and Bell have got nothin’ on this.
I just signed a 3yr contract with Telus for my HTC Hero in November. I hope I can somehow take advantage of this. :/

This piece of news sums up the entire wireless industry in this country: Price is too high, contract is too long.

I only use 25 megabytes on average with my bb, doesn’t appeal to me at all.

The might be decent if the Clear Choice plans didn’t jump from $60 up to $85.

Atleast they are throwing their customers a bone… one that can be taken away and probably not available for your next renewal, when smartphones will seriously be pushing the 6gb barrier.

About time…I went to Telus today, and heard two things: Never heard of a 5GB for $30 plan; and, you don’t need that much data.

One more reason I’ll be switching to bell as soon as the Galaxy is out.

Would be awesome if the companies offered less than 6gigs for users who have cheaper plans. (3gigs on $35plan etc…) And if they also allowed no contract users the same option.
Still trying to get folks into the 3yr contracts.
I am simply not one of those people, so I get squat with all this new competition.

The guy at Bestbuy this morning told me about this. And when I got my iphone, he said it has to be the $65 plan to get the 6GB. When you sign up it’ll say that it’s the 1GB plan but, in fact it’s the 6GB plan.

It’s not going to be taken away. Just like the 100 bonus minutes for new clients who can keep it if they were to renew their contract, the same goes for this. If you were to renew your contract again with this plan, you won’t lose the ‘bonus’ 5GB. As long as no one switches their plan down to $50 later on, you won’t lose this offer… just to clarify.

Just curious, what comes in the 65$ plan?

This really sucks in my opinion, I was about to renew for 3 years with Telus on the base that I could keep my awesome phone plan (that I’ve had for 6 years) and just ad the 30$ for 6gig like all other companies but no they could just do that. The approx 75$ a month it would have cost me would now be about 90-100$. Time for me to see if its true that Bell really improved their service in the last year.

What a joke. This is Telus’ way of trying to “match” the competition without actually matching them. I think this is one fail too many, and i’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

Unfortunately, it seems that us existing customers with the 65$ plan CAN NOT benefit from this new offer. NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY.
Two phone calls, a series of e-mails and one visit to a store couldn’t help me get the 5 Gb bonus.
Bites.

HOT NEWS: Here is some great advice……Don’t buy the iPhone or any phone from TELUS or Bell right now until August 16th, 2010 !!! The executive shmucks who run Telus and Bell will have enough data from their failed release of the iPhone and its Plans, that they will have to do something in a hurry to grab ANY marketshare that they can before the end of the Back-to-School Sales Season (Sept-1). Also they will try and mitigate the damage to their reputations that this experience has had on unsatisfied clients. Trust me…I am convinced that Telus is expecting a lot from this iPhone 4 sales period to retain clients, and steal away Rogers and Bell clients. Plus, I calculate that at least 2 senior executives will lose their jobs if they don’t come up with a NEW PLAN instead of this 5gig for $65 per month shenanigan (which isn’t really a special at all). Wait,,,,don’t buy Telus…! If you must buy, buy Bell or Rogers.

You do realize the $65 plan is voice & data which can be combined with any current promotion. This equates to:
300 daytime mins
6PM nights & weekends
6GB of data
Unl Messaging
iPhone VVM
+ $8 for Caller ID = $73 total + tax
The closest I could come to that on the Rogers site with an in-market voice plan, $30 data add-on and features was ~$92.

Am I missing something when people say this new deal from Telus sucks?
I can’t get anywhere close to this price from any of the other carriers, yet everyone is saying this deal from Telus sucks.
Also, if the 5GB add on is a bonus can it be removed within the 3 year contract term or only after that 3 years?
This will be my first smartphone, so anyone who can shed light on why this isn’t a good deal I would appreciate it.

I have gotten the offer honored. My milestone is now on the iPhone 65 plan with bonus 5gb. I couldn’t be happier. I am so happy i got rid of rogers back in February. The 400$ cancellation was worth it

@Goulz & @Brendan Murphy
I can confirm Brendan’s claim, I just called in and received the promotion after renewing and getting the iphone4 on friday.
You have to be persistent, they will tell you that the promotion is meant for new customers only as a part of competing against Rogers, but if you’re account meets every other requirement, they will add it. You will likely have to escalate to Customer Loyalty/Retensions.

Hey, im just about finished 1 year of my Telus contract. I called today to ask about getting this promotion cause im a student and 5gb extra would just be amazing. I have an iphone 50 package. The telus rep said i couldnt be given the promo, i fought hard with him about being fair to every customer and why new customers should be treated just as equally as existing customers. he didnt budge one bit. has anyone else been able to get this promo??? if so how did you do it?
