Fido releases the Nokia 2220 at $65 no contract

There’s a phone for everyone out there. Hence why Fido has released the Nokia 2220. This is almost free on a no-contract basis at $65. If you don’t have the dough you can always opt for the 2-year contract and pay $0.00.

Specs are that it’s a slider that has a 1.8-inch display (resolution of 128×160), VGA camera with video capabilities, FM radio and overall dimensions are 97.2 x 47 x 15.85 mm with a weight of 94 grams.

  1. Who in the right mind would buy this phone for $0 on contract? If you don’t have $65 to buy this phone outright, you shouldn’t save up until you do. And it is bad for mobilesyrup to suggest someone to buy any phone from any wireless carrier priced lower than $200 no-contract to buy it on 2-3 year contract.

  2. haha, when I saw this article this morning I asked myself who the first loser was who was going to hate on this. I thought it was pretty awesome of Fido to come out with a model in this price range. It shows progress, as well as a certain care for the consumer. Yes, 2 years is a long time, but if the person was happy with the services and had a need for a phone for the next 2 years, why not? So yeah, MKM…you seriously need to re-evaluate your life situation at this point, because your problems run much deeper than a wireless phone at this point. Now get lost. Go have road rage or yell at the kid at subway for not putting the pickles on your sandwich properly or whatever else you do in your spare time.

  3. IMO, any carrier who sells these low priced devices (on a two year contract) is unfairly taking advantage of their customers (and the current market) To better ubderstand what I mean (exactly) just wander over to Fido’s web site and take a peek at what it will cost to terminate the contract early.

  5. @fight the system

You’re the kind of sheep that the big Robbers and Bellus just LOVE.

Now go ahead and bend over for 2 years.

  6. all the big box wireless companys need to stop selling shitty phones.

if it were up to me, id tell fido/rogers/telus/bell to stop trying to scam uninformed people of wasting 65$ on shitty phones.

sure people just need a cell phone, but lets be honest, there’s no such thing as a cellphone anymore.

for anyone who is considering buying this phone to go on fido DONT.

support the smaller companies, in a decade wind could be providing you with your cable/internet/phone with cheaper prices, and no contracts!

    GO TO WIND FOLKS!

  7. @ADI, call me picky, but I need a quality network. Don’t get me wrong though…I buy my own phones straight up. I do have a loyalty plan though, with 6g of data and it’s under 40$ a month. I’ll let you guess who my carrier is. I also believe in supporting a canadian company.

Let me know when you find your dream company:

    -free Iphones
    -no contract
    -unltd everything
    -1$ a month.

    Suck it loser.

  8. @ADI, may I also mention that I have always paid my invoice on time and companies see me as an asset instead of a liability, and are willing to accomodate me as needed. It’s not that difficult.I stand by my position though…It’s very reasonable of Fido to offer that phone at 65$. Why do you have to hate on it? Those who take the contract are doing it at their own will. It’s not like there aren’t any other options.

  10. Who here can remember Fido when it was a prepaid company? Damn you Robbers for ruining a great little company. 15 cents a minute, 50 dollar credit on new prepaid phones. Simple and cheap phones under 100.00. Granted they are not a great network to be on. But in the 90s and early 2000 they were the first GSM company in Canada. I sure miss my Nokia 5165 that could do text messaging, survive being dropped, and even survive 30 below weather up north. :( boo to you Robbers!

  11. ok, so not everyone wants a high end device, a lot of people either want it for emergencies or cant afford an expensive phone. a phone in this price range, they don’t expect many people to get this on a 2 year contract, they’re just saying you CAN if you WANT. and the free iPhone thing, the prices are set by APPLE not the carrier. thats why the prices are the same for everyone.

  13. i have this phone, its not the best in the world but it does what i need it to. I bought it with Fido dollars did not cost me jack and now I’m saving up for a real phone, one thing to remember if your going to go with Fido have a real phone unlocked and bought before hand unless u like theirs. i loved my old moto pebl. but it finely hit the bucket.

also its appeal is not all that bad, in fact i like it. no god awful color schemes in it, no branding of any sort on or in it. its small and its cute. smouth no extra buttion looking like crap. “lg neon” + “lg gossip” perfect temp phone! or perfect phone for a year and a bit cuz it will break it ant built to last. its 65$ so w/e

i relay don’t like expensive ugly phones and next to the lg xenon this is the best Fido’s got.
