Apple sells 1.7 million iPhone 4s… coming to Canada “by the end of July”

Steve Jobs must be happy with the first weekend results of the iPhone 4! Apple sent out a press release today that said they have “sold over 1.7 million of its iPhone 4 through Saturday, June 26, just three days after its launch on June 24″. Huge – 1.7 million! Jobs stated “This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history. Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”

Speaking of not enough supply. There has been rumours that there might be a delay of the new iPhone 4 coming to Canada but the release also said that we can expect it here “by the end of July”. Sounds good! That’s only 4 weeks away now. Carriers that have confirmed selling the iPhone 4 are TELUS, Rogers, Bell, Virgin and Fido. Still waiting to hear from SaskTel.

  1. Several times on I have read MobileSyrup bloggers list carrier availability, and mention SaskTel, but not MTS.

Is this because they are considered the same thing for all intents and purposes? Or because Manitoba is too small/backward to mention? Or is there some legal prohibition from talking about MTS/Manitoba? Or maybe I’m just vain and sensitive and reading too much into it?

  3. MTS has a CDMA network. The iPhone won’t work on it.

MTS is partnering with Rogers to build an HSPA network. Depending on which dealer you talk to it’ll be running anywhere from later this summer to some time next year.

The Telus/Bell Manitoba HSPA network was promised for late 2009, then late 2010, and now they’ve backed away from even that.

Until MTS’s HSPA network is running, there’s no point speculating.

  5. Thanks guys.

So, the sad truth for Manitbans is: we’re just too backwards to mention.
