iPad now available on Pre-order… Rogers reveals Data price plans

The Apple iPad will be available on May 28th here in Canada, but for those interested in pre-ordering one you can now do this through the Apple site. Rogers and Bell and have stated they will offer data plans for this but it seems Rogers is first out of the gate to reveal their plans. Looks like there’s no ridiculous yearly contract to sign and you can go monthly:

250MB per month: $15.00
5GB per month: $35.00

UPDATE: We just got an e-mail from Rogers that stated “we have two iPad data plans available for our customers. Both the 250 MB for $15 and 5 GB for $35 include free unlimited access to all Rogers WiFi Hot Spots. At this time, we do not have a sharing plan to announce. The reference to a sharing plan on the Apple website was an error and is being removed.”

To compare other price plans, down in the States the AT&T plans are somewhat similar: $15 for 250MB or $30 for unlimited.

More here at Apple

(Thanks Bram!)

  1. Man…and here we all thought AT&T in the USA were jerks. Rogers mad because the iPhone is no longer exclusive? Jeez…

  2. Adding iPad to your existing data plan for $20 is actually not bad – I have a 6GB plan and the ability to add iPad to it WITHOUT changing SIM cards is alright to be honest.

I have a second SIM which also has a 6GB plan that I currently use in my Rocket Stick. I’ll likely just cut the SIM to be the shape of a Micro SIM and use it in my iPad.

    Just pre-ordered the 64GB WiFi + 3G version.

  4. Honestly knowing Rogers I was expecting worse than that. Still not “great” but less gouging than anticipated

  5. Also available, at no extra charge – iTief. Enjoy all the benefits that come with an affordable ride on the red rocket. Including: noisy people, nasty smells, and iPad thieving crooks ready to pounce on you for your newly coveted gadget!

  6. $20 to used your existing plan? So glad I just got the wifi version and do wifi tether to my phone if I’m out.

The $15 and $35 plan is OK but not great. 6G for $30 would be better and we know they can do that.

Let’s hope Bell and Telus comes up with more competition plans.

  7. So help me out here…who do I buy the iPad from? Rogers or Apple? If I get it from Rogers and then cancel, can I take the iPad to another carrier, or is it locked to Rogers (in this case, I’d rather have a contract so that I can get a better price…which doesn’t exist)?

  8. It is unknown what these “plans” include and what are the never advertised conditions: Government Regulatory Recovery Fee? SAF? 9-1-1 Fee? Activation Fee? Contract?

Rogers website does not show the information. But it show what was predictable: pay more for less, only in Canada.

  9. What a bunch of whiners! Rogers hasn’t offered 6GB/$30 data plans for quite a while now. In fact no Cdn. provider does. So now that Rogers offers 6GB/$35, people start whining they’re being ripped off. Get over yourselves.

  11. this is what happens when you don’t have proper regulation. The big three have profit margins of almost 50% (46%). God I hate our government.

  13. It’s a pretty hilarious read over on the Rogers Redboard blog about this. They’re getting hammered on it there, almost every post is negative.

  14. well here is what you need to know: buy the Ipad from Apple and DONT get a Rogers simcard for it.. wait until mobilicity launches and if they offer an unlimited data plan for their internet sticks.. get a simcard from them and add their unlimited plan and way you go… unfortunetly you cant do the same with a WIND sim card because it runs on diff frequency..so it wont work with the iPAD but mobilicity is using the same freq as rogers bell telus.. so their simcard will work.. and if im not mistaking.. mobilicity will launch in a month or less… hope this info was helpful.

  15. @Alex – I believe Mobilicity is using AWS, just like Wind, so the iPad won’t work on it.

  16. Does this mean that the existing data plans are changing, or is this only for an iPad? If I can get 250mb for $15 for an ipad, i should be able to use it in a smartphone, iphone, rocketstick etc surely?
