Say Hello to the LG Shine Touch, destined for TELUS?

LG Canada has presented an nice gift today on their website… a lovely look at the upcoming Shine Touch (KM-555)!

Even though LG has this pegged on tehir site for TELUS, it’s actually going to Rogers. The specs look really good: 3-inch touchscreen with 5 megapixel camera, video capabilities and they highlight the enabled screen, 3MP camera, WiFi, FM Radio, holds up to 16GB with a microSD card, features the ability to blare your music with Dolby mobile sound. Overall dimensions are 105.9 X 53.4 X 11.9mm with a weight of 105 grams.

Here are the full spec sheet from LG:

  1. you say the camera is 5MP but the spec sheet says the camera is only 3MP, with no mention of any flash. And the screen is a lowly 240×400. In short, this phone is a low-budget item that will not satisfy very many users.

  3. I think this is mediocre at best. Unless this phone is offered for free at 2 year contract (which will never happen), people won’t buy it. Cheap buyers will get even cheaper flip phones, and college kids will get iPhones. Power users will either go for iPhone, Android, or even WinMo.

I don’t understand what the market is for touch screen dumb phones. People who are really into messaging will buy featurephones with full qwerty keyboards, and people who are into multimedia and functionality usually go for smartphones.

Especially since Telus is rasing their featurephone plan pricing (especially for data), there is no incentive to buy half-featured dumbphones that mimic smartphones.

And we all know the OS and UI will be horrendous, because it’s made by LG.

  4. I don’t understand why LG would reuse the Shine name. To anyone who has half a clue about phones, it’s synonymous with “Junk”. When is the red version with chipping paint or the hideous gold version of this phone going to be released?

Until LG puts out a decent phone overall, and gets rid of their style over substance mentality, there is no way I can recommend them to customers.

  5. In the first 100 days, the LG POP sold >1 million phones. I’m sure they know what they’re doing.

  7. LG is crap, at best. The Neon did so bad that they had to release the xenon as fast as they did.

  8. Just because something sells well quickly doesn’t mean it’s not crap. It just means their are enough people who want it to make the sales.

The real stat is how many of them die, need servicing, or get replaced before their shelf life is up.

From personal experience, LG doesn’t stand up to the test of time, but people buy them because they “look cool”.

  9. @ Matt P

and that’s exactly what I’m referring to. The neon was horrible. We’d get them returned within 2 weeks, sometimes the next day after purchase because something would go wrong with it. The buttons wouldn’t function, the screen would go out; all common problems we saw that would happen within at least a month after purchase. And by that, that’s why I say LG is crap. =)

  10. @jesss

I completely agree, I was responding to unknown.

I hope this is the biggest money loser for both Rogers and Telus, so they realise LG is not worth the time or money.

  14. I bought a LG-C710h (LG Shine Plus) recently and found the radio of the phone keeps playing once turned on but can not be turned off. I looked into the manual but could not find any instruction about how to operate the radio. I also sent an inquiry to LG Tech Support but got no answer, so I had to let the radio plays on until the battery finishes. After recharging the battery the phone works normal but I dare not to use the radio again. Could someone help tell me how to solve the problem? I would be very much obliged for your help. Thanks.
