Motorola DEXT to exclusively be released by Bell

Good news for those on the Bell network (or looking to come over)… a new Android device has been announced. Still no word of when but a familiar “coming soon” has been attached to the Motorola Dext. This will exclusively be released by Bell sometime during the first half of 2010.

The Dext specs say that it’ll come with Android OS 1.5, 3.1 inch display (resolution of 320 x 480), full QWERTY keyboard, Motorola’s MOTOBLUR, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and video capabilities, 3.5 mm audio jack, can hold up to 32GB with a microSD card, A-GPS, WiFi. Overall dimensions are 114 x 58 x 15.6 mm with a weight of 163 grams.

Bell is also giving you a chance to win if you sign up to receive updates from them. More here at Bell
(Thanks Mark!)

  1. Seriously? Why are all these new Android phones coming out with v1.5?

  2. Yeah, seriously, v1.5?! I wish companies that signed on to Android made a commitment to release upgrades – even if for a limited time, like 3 years, or number of versions, like 2 major versions and all minors.

  3. Seriously, why does the provider control when you update your device?

  5. The three new android devices coming aren’t coming with anything over 1.5 because motoblur hasn’t been ported to anything else yet. As far as I read anyways.

So it’s really motorolas fault, at this time anyways.

  6. is the fact that its loaded with version 1.5 really that bad? is it really that crucial to have the “cutting edge” OS? As long as that version is solid and works the way I need it to then I dont see an issue with it

  7. ^ true but there are a lot of new features that are not included in 1.5 that are in 2 – 2.1 or even 1.6.

  8. yea i agree. who cares if u dont have the latest OS 2.1 and in canada we always get the newest stuff last anyways. my blackberry is still running OS 4.7 and verizon and every other company already release 5.0 like 6 months ago :( its just the way Canada is…

Does anyone know how much the DEXT will be no contract?

  9. Sadly, as I understand it, Bell doesn’t make unlock codes available to 3rd parties. So don’t expect to buy this no-contract, unlock it, and use it on another network.

Personally, I think it should be illegal to sell a phone locked if you’re buying it outright – but that’s just me.

  10. I’m on locked in a contract with bell right now, so I would have to buy this phone at the no contract price, right?

  12. Sigh,
    Crappy speced Motorola phone? Seriously?

Why not give us something nice, Bell?

    For you’re RIM Lover…
    1.BB Storm 2
    2.BB Pearl 9100
    (these two SHOULD BE COMING)
    3.That new BB slider :P

    To Cover andriod.
    4.HTC Legend
    5.HTC Desire
(For android, THESE ARE NO BRAINERS. With Rogers having X10 and Telus having Milestone/Hero.)

    6.One of Motorola’s XT800/MT710//XT720 MOTOROI
(If Bell wants MOTO, at least pick something that is GOOD and comparable to Telus’s Milestone)

I WAS going to mention HD2/Tp2 but in all honesty it is a good move by Bell to not offer them. Seeing how Windows Phone Series 7 is right around the corner. There is really no point.

I was also going to mention the newer Nokia’s like the X6, N900 and E72
But no one cares about them in North America.

    end point is
HTC Desire 4 win, my hardware upgrade credit will remain unused :(

  15. Just because Bell doesn’t give out unlock codes does not mean the device is hard locked to Bell. Now, granted, that is the case with the SA version of the Motorola Milestone (haven’t gotten to read up on the version from Telus yet), but I’m not sure if this is a request of the carrier or not.

If it is the case, perhaps Bell and other carriers have decided to start hard-locking Android phones to their carrier? I hope not, ’cause that would suck for a lot of people.

  16. Whoever said any carriers “hardlock” phones is wrong.

Bell does give out lock codes, the only thing is you have to have the phone activated for 30 days.

Which isn’t different from most carriers.
