We’ve been tipped that Rogers is prepping to release the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy in about 2-3 weeks. No word on price points yet but this touchscreen is currently available at Bell for $49.95 on a 3-year. So if this rumour is true you can’t expect Rogers to release it for much more.
The Galaxy is currently the thinnest Android that’s available in Canada and measures 116 x 56 x 11.9mm with a weight of 116.7 grams. Other specs of the Galaxy are that it runs OS 1.5, has a3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, comes with 8GB of memory and can hold up to 40GB with a microSD card. In addition, a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, LED flash and video capabilities, 3.5 mm headphone jack and WiFi.
UPDATE: According to RogersGuy in our comments states: “This is confirmed. We received a white dummy unit today in our store. Officially named the Samsung Galaxy Spica. 3.2″ 320×480 TFT display, only 183mb of internal memory, WIFI and GPS”
More soon! (Thanks tipster!)
Oh wow, did Rogers even hear about the dozens of Android phones that were made waaaaaaay after this was released?

This is confirmed. We received a white dummy unit today in our store. Officially named the Samsung Galaxy Spica. 3.2″ 320×480 TFT display, only 183mb of internal memory, WIFI and GPS. I’d guess pretty cheap based on specs.

NOOOO! please don’t release the worst Android phone ever created by any manufacturer.
This device is the first Android phone released by Samsung (June 2009) and it’s not a good one…
The others Android devices made by Samsung are much better…

Rogers continues to fail to bring worthwhile Android phones to the Canadian market.
HTC Desire and HTC Legend Rogers! Common get it right!

Why do we Canadians keep getting these crappy 1.5/1.6 320×480 phones. Why can’t we get a current gen Android 2.0/2.1 480×800 phone!

who cares if it’s getting an update to 2.1….. it’s still a substandard phone by any count. They should be offering this thing for $0.00 for entry level users.

We revived our neon green promo box with a pair of white dummy handsets and a bunch of the phones propaganda at our store mid last week. Rogers lables all over the handsets. I’d sure call this confirmed unless Rogers was pulling an early April fools joke, …like the LG Pop….

I got my galaxy spica as a gift. Rooted it to 2.1. Its light weight, excellent on battery consumption, and fast! I miss having a physical qwertyand no back lighting for the buttond but overall, i love my phone. The haters are hating it too much you’d think the phone did them a personal wrong. Emotional reactions are always subjective, biased, and often misinformed. Give this phone a fair chance. You may just be surprised. I was. Peace!
