Virgin launching “huge new” HSPA+ network Feb. 2nd

We saw last week ALL the upcoming devices that Virgin Mobile will offer: iPhone 3G & 3GS, Blackberry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Curve 8530, Samsung M330, Broadband2Go MC998D and the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372.

The first of the bunch are the iPhone and Bold 9700 for availability in February – these are both devices that will be part of their new HSPA+ network launch (thanks to Bell).

No word was given when until we received an invite to their upcoming launch party that clearly shows the date for the “huge new” network launching February 2nd, 2010. In true Virgin style they go all out as they have a that stellar cast of performers…

Who’s excited for the new devices and who’s going to get what?

    3. I presume koodo will eventually follow suite. If/when the new networks pick up allot of customers this could turn into a problem of bogging down towers.

    4. Virgin being a VMO they don’t have a network. They are actually owned by now.

    5. I have been with Virgin for two years on prepaid, but I was seriously considering joining WIND. However now WIND is experiencing some serious network problems and I am not in the Home Zone for a while, I will certainly consider staying with Virgin (or moving over to DAVE) IF the no contract plans are good.

If Virgin just turns out the same basic plans as it’s parent company Bell however, I don’t really see the point in staying.

    6. uhhh, you mean they’re launches devices for Bell’s new network?

Insane how they can just ‘create’ other brands in an attempt to ‘trick’ people into thinking they have more choice. Should be illegal.

    7. This “LaunchN is all a farce since the network has been up for months.

Next JDPowers survey will once again say that Virgin has the best voice quality and best reception; just like it did last year. Meanwhile Bell’s rating will be much lower.

It’s proof that marketing is very persuasive, to the point of altering facts.

    8. agreed with Eric.

I don’t need a device, I just need reasonably priced service. I only need a SIM card.

curious to see what they put out, though.

    9. Why release the CDMA 8530 when you can get the 8520? Kind of ridiculous that Bell and Telus are still releasing inferior, more expensive to manufacture CDMA devices.

    10. I wonder if Virgin’s network will be worse than bells. Will they do something to it like putting drugs in a drink. I know they’re basically the same company but how can bell live with itself knowing that virgin’s rates are much cheaper than bells? I wonder

    11. RE: CDMA 8530

The 8520 is GSM and not HSPA 3G that’s why they won’t have the ‘20. ALso how is CDMA inferior? It is a solid network unlike the the new Bell Telus HSPA network, they still have to work out the kinks in that.

    12. How about they keep the CDMA network and make it cheap for prepaid users who really don’t care for HSPA+?

    13. Interestingly, the 8530 is listed as having GPS, while the 8520 does not.
