Google announces Nexus One: the “next stage in evolution of Android”

Google has announced “Nexus One”, their personal Android device that is stated as the “next stage in evolution of Android”. This touchscreen smartphone has a 3.75 OLED display, 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, stereo bluetooth and 3.5mm headphone jack, “Active noise suppression” and runs Android 2.1.

For us Canadians, Google has said they will not ship to us. But if you do want it you an still get it to work as it has a SIM card slot… but the draw back it that it’ll cost you $529 US for the new Android.

  4. Anyone heard anything about shipping to Canada? This phone would be a perfect flagship for Wind Mobile.

  5. It’s a pity that they won’t ship it to Canada, but then again it’s been more than a year I’ve been waiting for Google Voice. I’m disappointed that Google seems to have an almost contemptuous attitude towards Canada, but I guess this means the choice between the Nexus One and the N900 has been made for me for my first new phone in 6 years.

  6. No shipping to Canada is a let down. Gonna have to go outta the country for this phone cause it looks like it will work on networks over here.

  7. If this phone is for T-Mobile it probably does not have the bands that are compatible with Bell and Telus. This may be the reason for not shipping here. And for those who really want it, there is this thing called eBay…

  8. Not everyone wants 3G speeds or a Data plan.

Even if someone wanted 3G speeds, The Nexus One would be perfectly compatible with WIND mobile (and this summer Videotron in Quebec).

There is no reason not to ship it to Canada.

  10. I’ll admit, that is rather disappointing on Google’s part for not looking to do anything to offer this device to Canadians. One would almost think that Google wishes to leave Canada out of the picture altogether…. which, of course, they wouldn’t… would they?

  11. The Nexus One is not compatible with Rogers/Bell/Telus 3G networks so why would you wanna pay 520$ for it?

  13. No reason not to bring it to Canada as it will work with Wind. However Rogers has annouced the X10 in Q2 today, so it may be worth waiting for that. The SE handset will be slightly better quailty that the HTC. Sorry HTC. However Android 1.5/ 6 is in the X10. Hmmmm. So many unlocked choices.
