It cannot get more official than a press release! With the news yesterday that Bell is launching their HSPA network sometime in November, they have released a statement today that confirms the rumours of getting the iPhone. The statement is incredibly short and to the point: “Bell and Apple have reached an agreement to bring iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to Canada this November”.
In addition, TELUS has released a statement that rings familiar “TELUS and Apple have reached an agreement to bring iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to Canada this November.” TELUS has also put a registration page together that gets you to sign up for launch dates, pricing and plans. Visit it here
No word on pricing but you can almost bank on Bell only offering 3-year contracts at the start and at the same price points as what Rogers is currently selling:
iPhone 3GS 16 GB: $199.00 on a 3-year contract
iPhone 3GS 32 GB: $299.00 on a 3-year contract
iPhone 3G 8 GB: $99.00 on a 3-year contract
iPhone 3G 16GB: $149.00 on a 3-year contract

so when is Telus launching their iPhone?!

Why is Telus last to launch anything these days?

sigh hoping for a 2 year contract

Can’t wait to see what the pricing is going to be like. I really hope they shake things up with it and just don’t price it the same as Rogers.

Telus announcement was out well within the time difference between Ontario and BC.

I still say this is bogus. The HSPA network will be so small customers will have very limited usefulness. There is something screwy about this whole thing, and I’ll believe it when I see it in the stores.

doitonabike,
Good point. I forgot to consider Telus HQ is in BC, however mobility is in ON is it not?
Does that really work on a bike?
I hope Telus allows tethering…I can see them wanting to scoop extra coin for that feature.

That registration page is an excellent way to gage demand.

Typo…..I meant gauge

Million dollar question: What would an iPhone on Bell or Telus do if it couldn’t get 3G signal? No EDGE to fall back on on CDMA, so…?? If anyone can shed some light here would be great!

The Telus/Bell HSPA network is Canada-wide and much much larger than Rogers. No Edge/GSM fallback is needed in Canada.

Finally Rogers won’t have a choke hold on Canadians who want an iPhone. This is just one more thing to stir the pot in the Canadian wireless industry.

iphone is so passe now if this happened when it first came to rogers i might’ve got it. Android is what intrigues me now, come on HTC hero and bell

Sure the hero would be nice but take a look into the HTC Touch HD2, I’m sure you will be pleased.

i hope the plans will be a little more reasonable then rogers/fido come on 60 bucks for 500mb of data?! also its safe to say the palm pre is dead with bell, with the iphone on bell now why would you want a pre?

Hero, iphone, touch pro2 all on telus; hero, iphone and pre all on bell…. a bit more and they would all have the flagship phones of each OS

Bell or Telus better get the hero before January. If that happens i’ll be happy

i would 100% buy the iPhone… if Bell would put it on Virgin Mobile and make Virgin a HSPA and CDMA company
but sadly, that will most likely never happen
