“Antenna Meter” app checks your BlackBerry’s antenna signal strength

It was a week ago that Apple held their “Antennagate” press conference where they announced free cases for all iPhone 4 owners. In addition, CEO Steve Jobs lambasted other manufacturers by stating the “Death Grip” reception issue doesn’t just happen to them… it happens on Samsung, Nokia, HTC and RIM devices too.

Our homegrown Canadian company RIM fired back by stating that “Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years… One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity.”

Well, if you have any doubt if your Berry is losing signal… there’s an app for that. Toronto-based Xtreme Labs released “Antenna Meter” and it checks your BlackBerry’s antenna signal strength every second. What’s even better is that you can use various grips and truly measure your results. Another feature of the app is that you can interact/poll other Berry users to see if they have experienced any sort of “Death Grip”. The app is free and can download from your BlackBerry browser here http://bit.ly/bPehjx
