Kickstarter is finally building an Android app

Crowd-funding service Kickstarter has come a long way in the six years since its launch. Though contributions weren’t confined to the United States, the company initially only supported projects that were based in the U.S. In the last few years, we’ve seen Kickstarter expand to support projects in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, and, as of fall 2013, Canada. Kickstarter users can even create and back projects on their iPhone or iPad thanks to the official iOS app.

One thing Kickstarter doesn’t have is an Android app. Two years after the release of the iOS application, Kickstarter has yet to cater to the millions and millions of Android users that exist today. That will soon change, though. The company is now actively seeking an Android engineer and isn’t shy about the reasons why. In a job posting on its website, Kickstarter writes:

“Can you believe we don’t have an Android app yet? Neither can we. We are looking for an experienced Android engineer to lead us to our first release and own the future of Kickstarter on the Android platform.”

Kickstarter goes on to say that the first version of Kickstarter for Android will likely entail “near feature-parity with [the] current iOS app.”

More generally, though, they’ll work with the company’s iOS engineer in order to create “a unified vision for native apps at Kickstarter.”
