Earlier today, Bell reported full year 2013 results and stated that “Bell Mobile TV subscribers exceeded 1.2 million at the end of 2013, up 66% over the previous year.” The investor report drills down a bit deeper and reveals the number to actually be sitting at 1,230,000 — which is a surprising increase of 23% in 3-months.
This service is a big differentiator for the carrier as they’ve spent a great deal of time enhancing the offering by integrating many more channels for Bell TV customers within the app. Bell also included this embedded Mobile TV into various rate month plans, or costs $5/month for 10 hours of viewing. Unfortunately there’s no word on what the average usage is per customer, or how many customers are paying the $5/month fee.
Bell previously stated that much of the success of Mobile TV occurs when popular sporting events happen, such as the Super Bowl, Olympics and Junior Hockey. The Mobile TV app is available on Android, iOS and BlackBerry and has access to 100 live and on demand TV channels.
