Video: Siri apparently gets controlled by thought (Real or Fake?)

A major feature of the new iPhone 4S is the voice-controlled Virtual Assistant named Siri. But there’s something much cooler on the horizon and it apparently can do the same actions, but with your thought. A group of hackers have come up with is something called “Project Black Mirror” and they’ve – from the looks of this video – have successfully controlled Siri through thought. The “test subject” attached ECG (electrocardiogram) pads to his head, then connected to the iPhone 4S, a MacBook Pro and an Arduino open-source microcontroller. According to the developers (who are also looking for funding) the program recognizes “signature patterns that indicate a certain word is being thought of. The program will then wait for a natural ‘release’ in brain waves and assume the chain of commands is now complete and action is required”.

Certainly a good idea, but some are calling it a “sloppy fake”. Greg Courville of Greg’s Lab says there are “big fat red flags” to what “Project Black Mirror” is demonstrating. He believes that “Project Black Mirror is a fraud. Without question, their demos were faked”, mainly because there is “Non-functional hardware”. Courville specifically writes about how the SpeakJet voice chip is installed sideways, which ensures there are critical pins missing “and therefore would make it impossible to use”.

Cool idea, yes. Sci-Fi, for sure… but real or fake it’ll eventually happen sometime. In the meantime I wouldn’t suggest you give them your money. Video below.
