After a bit of a delay the BlackBerry Torch was officially released on September 30th (1-week ago). The price plans varied from the no-contract price of $599.95 to $609.99 and the lowest cost was the 3-year from Bell at $179.95. Rogers and TELUS came in at the $199.99 on a 3-year term… but it looks like the price dropping has already started. Québec-based Planète Mobile is a Rogers dealer and has decided to slash $50 off the 3-year contract price for this to hit the lowest available price at $149.
Currently Quebec is a hotbed for wireless competition and the carriers are being creative on how to bring customers in the door. Perhaps this discount is just one way, but it also could be a sign of things to come for the Torch. There’s no official word on how many 9800 devices were sold in the first week.
