Nokia has just sent out media invitations to show us to “see more” on July 11th. This will most likely be the official unveiling of the heavily leaked Nokia Lumia EOS. The EOS is rumoured to have a 41MP camera with Xenon flash, a 4.5-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1280×768, wireless charging and 32GB of internal storage.

The only description that the invite reveals is that Nokia plans on reinventing the zoom. We’ll bring you all the details and hands-on from New York City.

Manitoba-based MTS originally went live with their LTE network in Winnipeg and Brandon back in August 2012, then more recently in Grand Beach and Victoria Beach. Today they’ve announced an “extended network sharing agreement” with Rogers that will see the two companies share costs and expand LTE coverage in the province.

The press release noted that the goal is for LTE to reach over 90% Manitoba’s population over the next five years, but in the imminent future you’ll see Selkirk, Steinbach and Ste. Anne go live. As for Rogers, June 17th is the date that they’ll officially go live. Their LTE Max – which uses dual frequency 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz bands – will be available in Winnipeg, Brandon, Victoria Beach, Grand Beach, Selkirk, Steinbach and Ste. Anne.

In an email to us Rogers noted that “We thank our Manitoba customers for their patience and are very happy to finally have LTE available for them.”

Update: This news of LTE going live on June 17th is also for Fido’s customers.

Regional carriers are now bringing on the latest BlackBerry. Quebec-based Videotron and Manitoba’s MTS added the BlackBerry Q10 to their lineup yesterday. Today it’s Eastlink turn over in Halifax and it’ll will hook onto their LTE network. The price is $699 outright or $199 on there easyTab. Similar to other carriers, apart from Rogers, the Q10 is only available in black.

Apple might be launching an iPhone phablet. Boom.

Reuters has “four people with knowledge of the matter” and state that Apple is considering the idea of releasing two new iPhones next year. One will have a 4.7-inch display and the other a 5.7-inch display. This is to take on Samsung’s growing dominance in the larger phone/tablet space. The supply chain source informed Reuters that “they constantly change product specifications almost to the final moment, so you’re not really sure whether this is the final prototype.”

As for this year, the report noted that we’ll see the iPhone 5S be released in black and white with “new fingerprint technology.” In addition, as rumoured and leaked online, Apple will come to market with a possible $99 entry-level iPhone that’s made of plastic and come in 5-6 colours… with the official release targeted for September.

Of course, Apple declined to comment on the rumours.

To say Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is a success is an understatement. The company recently announced sales have surpassed the 10 million mark – which set a record for being the fastest selling Android smartphone ever. Compared to the GS III, the new flagship device is thinner, lighter, larger, more powerful, but still mostly made of plastic.

When you hold the GS4 in your hand it feels like a quality device and Samsung has made sure your precious smartphone can handle a few bumps and bruises. A video has been uploaded to YouTube that shows how Samsung stress tests the GS4 in several scenarios: standard drop tests on metal floor and a ‘free fall test,’ a tumble, impact, strength and water tests, and finally capping it off by baking it in an oven and giving it an electric shock.

Carriers invest millions of dollars every year to improve cellphone coverage by installing antennas and towers. You’ve probably seen these massive eyesores staring back at you while driving, but recently there’s been desire from the general public to come up a less obtrusive tower designs. We’ve seen towers pop up in the form of a cross on Church land, plus ones that look like trees in the Muskoka area.

A new cell tower is potentially being dreamed up in Vancouver’s North Shore. The region currently has spotty coverage due to the high elevation and mountains. According to a report in The North Shore Outlook, Rogers is planning an ‘innovative’ idea that could bring a whole new level of tower design.

Apparently Rogers hired Vancouver-based architect firm Dialog to design towers that “won’t have any visible antenna.” The proposed towers are 36-metres high and allow for “graphics and different colours” to be embedded into the design, plus have “the possibility of lights to create a kind of public art.” Sounds like a big ad, or possibly the same experience of the CN Tower in Toronto. The pictures gives a good indication of what residents will possibly see, but the government might have an issue with distracted driving if there’s a light show happening.

Fresh off the news of a pretty solid plan – $60GB/month data and unlimited calling and texts – is the release of the BlackBerry Q10 by Videotron. While the QWERTY/Touch BlackBerry 10 smartphone was originally launched back in the first week of May, Videotron has come to market and priced this at $179.99 on a “Reduced price” and set the no-term tag at $629.95.

A refresher of specs, the Q10 has a full QWERTY keyboard, 3.1-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 x 720, 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 8MP camera and a 2MP front-facing camera, sans LTE but has ’4G connectivity.’

Not to be out done by competing carriers Bell and TELUS, Rogers is also giving away a $25 Google Play Gift Card to those purchase the HTC One. The fine print in the legal says that the offer is “Available to new and existing customers with purchase of HTC One (while quantities last) and new activation on any Rogers post-paid plan between June 10 – June 16, 2013 with a 3- yr FLEXtab agreement.”

The HTC One on Rogers is $149.99 on a 3-year, which is currently $50 more than Bell and TELUS. In addition, Rogers has a similar promo with the Galaxy S4 but offers up a $35 Google Play Gift Card.

In a move that shouldn’t shock anyone, Twitter has finally confirmed that API v1, the same one that powers a number of popular apps including TweetDeck for iOS and Android, has been “retired”.

Twitter has already removed TweetDeck for Android and iPhone from Google Play and the App Store on May 7th , but declared that they’ll be transitioning to its new API version 1.1. Don’t fret though, most of your favourite Twitter-based apps have already transitioned over to the new API and will remain unaffected by this retirement. Twitter has been locking down on their API’s since announcing stricter rules earlier this year.

Huawei has just taken to Facebook and teased those interested in their products that they’ll be releasing a water resistant, or possibly fully waterproof smartphone. The image shows a Windows Phone 8 device – potentially the heavily leaked Ascend W2 – being dunked into water.

The Facebook post stated that “as anticipated for many rumors, a new ultra-slim attractive design will enrich the collection of smartphones Huawei!” The Huawei Ascend W2 rumoured specs have it sporting a 4.3 inch 720p display, 7.7 mm thin, 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 8MP camera with LED flash that captures 1080p HD videos.

We’ll see what happens when Huawei officially announces the unknown device. Since WIND Mobile just launched the Huawei Ascend W1 there’s a good chance the Ascend W2 will be a follow-up.
