Foursquare promises Windows Phone users that Swarm is coming soon

Swarm app by Foursquare

Foursquare announced plans to ‘unbundle’ its services across several applications back in the beginning of May. Swarm took over the check-ins functionality from Foursquare in mid-May, launching for iOS and Android at the same time. Two months on, Foursqaure is assuring Windows Phone users that they haven’t been forgotten.

Speaking via Twitter, Foursquare support told one irate Windows Phone user that it was putting the finishing touches on Swarm for Windows Pone and that it should be ready ‘very soon.’ (more…)

Google is set to shore up enterprise support in its upcoming Android L release. Aside from improving the core set of APIs developers and IT administrators can use, the Mountain View-based search giant is partnering with Samsung to offer a set of non-hardware specific Knox features across the Android L ecosystem.

Now in its second iteration, Knox offers Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Note users the option to compartmentalize work data on a personal device, protecting vital enterprise data from being shared with other apps, and to protect both the user and the company in cases of theft or loss.

Google separates Knox integration into three categories: Device and Data Security; Support for IT Restrictions and Policies; and Mobile Application Management. (more…)

ZTE embraces Google Now Launcher for all new Android smartphones

Smartphone manufacturer ZTE has announced plans for a new breed of Blade Vec 4G that uses the Google Now Launcher for its home screen. The Blade Vec 4G was announced in late June in Europe and launches in Hong Kong later this week. When it does, it will be running Google’s own Google Now Launcher as opposed to ZTE’s usual customized UI.

Based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 SoC, the Blade Vec 4G doesn’t have the most impressive spec sheet but it’s not too shabby, either. The phone packs 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a 1.2 GHz CPU, a 5-inch 720p display and a 13-megapixel camera. There’s also a 2-megapixel camera up front as well as Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, and GPS. Apple products set to return to Costco after four years

Costco members haven’t been able to buy Apple products at their favourite warehouse since 2010, the days of the iPhone 4 and the original, first generation iPad. Even then, the chain only sold Apple products in its physical stores and not online. That’s all about to change, though.

Late last month, Costco USA started selling Apple electronics via its website. Now, Costco Canada is reportedly set to do the same. iPhone in Canada cites sources that say Apple will carry the iPod touch and iPod nano as well as the Retina and non-Retina versions of the iPad mini and the iPad Air. Apple offers iOS 8 beta 4 to developers

Apple has offered up iOS 8 beta 4 to developers two weeks after the third beta, which came two weeks after the second. See a pattern?

The company is rolling out a steady stream of test code for developers to build their apps upon before the public release this fall, which will almost certainly coincide with a new iPhone version.

iOS 8 promises a number of important new user-facing features, including Extensions like custom keyboards, Continuity for handing off functions between iOS and OS X devices, actionable notifications, as well as a new focus on health.

Apple will be reporting its fiscal Q3 2014 earnings on July 22nd, so stay tuned.
