Palm ends relationship with ad agency Modernista

It looks like Canadian actress Tamara Hope will not star in anymore Palm commercials. According to AdAge they’re reporting that Palm is “severing ties with its agency, Modernista, and is in the early stages of talks with other agencies for its future ad needs”. Palm came out swinging with with a great deal of hype to promote the new Pre and its revolutionary webOS platform and the ad that Modernista created actually left people questioning it’s brand positioning, people actually called the ad “scary”.

Below are a couple Palm Pre ads… the first was created by the ad agency and probably cost them a great deal of money. The second was created by a Palm fan and cost absolutely nothing. Which do you like better? (more…)

Multitasking & “iAd” coming to iPhone OS 4.0?

With Apple announcing a sneak peek event set for April 8th that will offer a look into the future of the iPhone OS, analysts Shaw Wu with Kaufman Bros. sent a note to investors that 4.0 will be “a full multi-tasking environment where third-party apps will also be able to run simultaneously and/or in the background along with AAPL’s own apps.”

Back in January Apple acquired mobile advertising company Quatrro Wireless for $275 million and it’s also rumoured that with the 4.0 release we’ll see Apple foray into the mobile advertising space under the name “iAd”.

Wonder how Palm is reacting to the possibility of multitasking as this is one of the key features of their webOS platform. We’ll learn more about this when the event unfolds on Thursday at 10:00am Pacific time.

TELUS HTC Hero 2.1 update delayed until May?

Overseas there’s talk about the HTC Hero being upgraded to Android OS 2.1 on April 16th… even here in Canada there are several rumours of when we’ll be seeing TELUS update the Hero to OS 2.1.

TELUS released the Hero when they launched their new HSPA network back in November of last year. We’ve been tipped that an OS update was supposed to happen sometime in April but apparently TELUS is taking their time to push it through and due to a “lack of effort the HERO’s update to Android 2.1 has been delayed to the first week of May”.

We’ll have more info soon…

InPulse BlackBerry smartwatch “is almost here”

Fido increasing 911 Fees April 12th

Not the biggest surprise in the world but Fido is joining parent company Rogers by increasing the 911 Fees. This goes into effect April 12th and the fee will increase from $0.50 to $0.75 per month plus taxes, but only for those customers “who subscribed to price plans prior to November 4th, 2008″.

You’ll see in the internal document that Fido states “we are simply bringing the rate in line with those charged by other Canadian wireless service providers. Our competition has been charging $0.75 for similar types of rate plans for some time. Customers have a choice. Fido will not require customers to move to new non-SAF plans if they do not wish to do so; customers who wish to migrate to non-SAF plans will not have to pay the 911 emergency access fee (a one-time set-up fee of $35 per line applies).

See the document below in comparison to their competition (Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Virgin, Wind and Koodo Mobile).
