The BlueAnt Z9i Bluetooth Headset is a fairly new to product to hit Canada. I’ve benn using this for the past week and impressed with the sound quality and more importantly the comfort. My main concern with Bluetooth headsets is a number of factors ranging from comfort, sound quality and battery life.

The BlueAnt Z9i was the winner of the CES 2007 Innovations Design and Engineering Award so it kinda informs you of the power and respect it has within the industry. Inside the package you will get the headset, an extra earbud in case you have a smaller ear, an extra earhook (plastic), USB charger and AC charger. In addition, the standard materials for operating the device effectively.

The benefits of the BlueAnt Z9i is that it is easy to use. First and foremost, the dimensions are 41 x 17.5 x 11.2 mm and it weighs in at only 11 grams so you’ll barely feel this on your ear. Remember this Bluetooth is really comfortable so you will most likely go to bed with it and wake up the next morning and see it’s on your ear. With that said, the earhook can be made custom to fit your ear as it can be bent to fit perfectly around your size and comfort level.

The Z9i has a range of 33 feet, a better range than other Bluetooth headsets we’ve reviewed that only had a 25 foot range. One of the concerns that I have is the charge time as it’s about 2 hours to get a full charge. You can charge this with either the USB connection, or the AC adapter. However, the estimated talk time I received was an average of 5 hours.

There are only 3 buttons: Mutli-function button (on/off, answer/hang-up, and voice isolation), Volume up button and volume down button. It’s unique feature is the “dual microphone with voice isolation and noise reduction”… this allows you have standard & max settings. Standard is for normal surroundings… Max could be for those times when you are surrounded by tons of noise and need to drown out what’s around you. When you change the standard and max settings the headset informs you via a message in your ear. It worked well for me.

The average price of this comes in around $130 Canadian and is available in Black and Red.
But it is wel worth a peek if you are looking to get a free phone this season.

The offer is that you can get a free pohone ($0.00) with a 2-year agreement. The phones are Nokia 2760, Nokia 3500, MOTORAZR V3 “Classic” and the MOTORAZR V3. In all honesty these are not the latest edition phones, but if you are looking for a solid device that can do the basics – like make phone calls, take a look at these as the price is right.

Once you choose your $0.00 phone you can choose your monthly plan. Fido has no monthly system access or extra network fees. The monthly plans range from $15 – $70 and are vastly different when it comes to the minutes you recieve.

Future Shop has already sent out their Boxing Day flyer and inside it has some good deals.

Specifically the Samsung M540 Slyde from TELUS. This launched early November and went straight on sale to $0.00. Kind of reminds me how a movie goes straight to DVD.

However, the deal comes in when you buy this for $0.00 on a 3-year contract Future Shop is throwing in a Blue-ray player for free (valued at $249). Some fine print is that it has to be purchased in-store and only applies to new activations.

The Samsung m540 Slyde (Samsung Rant in the US) is a slide slider with a full QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera, GPS, 2.1″ screen, weighs in at 130 grams – comes in Black and Pink.

This is a great stocking stuffer for any gamer and is published by Electronic Arts’ and can be yours for $9.99. When you are using the touchscreen all you need to do to start building city zones is drag your finger over the area and hit the confirmation button.

Like usual games and view images, double-tapping the screen zooms in and … here is a review of the game in action by Appvee.com.

Get Sim City here at the App Store

The LG KEYBO is a texting dream and is available at TELUS and Koodo. This compact devise has a good music player, decent speakers, 2.0 megapixel camera, ability to surf the web and its full QWERTY keyboard is well designed. We played around with this beast for a bit and our initial thoughts are in the video below.

The KEYBO weighs 120 grams, dimensions are 102mm x 54mm x 16.5mm and is available in black and red. The external display (160 x 64 pixels) illuminates your contacts, messaging, history… when your music is playing it shows the album cover, artist, song. The internal display (320 x 240 pixels) is between the speakers and we felt this is somewhat small but certainly does its job. With its QWERTY keypad nicely spaced out it will be easy to use for texting, e-mail, IM and typing in any url for fast action to the web. The 2.0 camera is easy to use via the internal and external display.

This is our first – and very quick – review as we basically just opened up the box and started to record.. so it gives you an insight of how easy the KEYBO is to navigate and use:

It’s available for $49.99 on a 3-year contract, $99.99 on a 2-year and $249.99 on a 1-year. If you want to buy this outright it will cost you $299.99. More info at Telus

Over at Koodo you can get this for $225 outright, or $75 with the Tab. Koodo will also throw in a free Bluettoth headset. More here
