LG Reveal and Samsung Cleo side-by-side Review

If you’re in the market for a “fashion phone” this holiday season you might want to check out the LG Reveal and Samsung Cleo from Bell.

Here is the rundown of both of these compact devices:

LG Reveal: This will come in two colours: Black, and a flowery designed purple that comes with a “Shimmer Kit” (a Bluetooth headset with Swarovski crystals all over it). It has a full QWERTY keyboard with a 2.4 inch high resolution screen, 3G, 2.0 Megapixel Camera with zoom, video recorder and speakerphone. It weighs only 105 grams.

Price plans are : 3-year: $99.95, 2-year: $149.95, 1-year: $299.95 and for Outright: $349.95.

Samsung CLEO: This comes in Pink, Blue and “Champagne” (through Solo). Measure 5.5 inches and has a full QWERTY keyboard, 1.3 megapixel camera, MP3 player with expandable memory up to 8GB.  They have competed with the Reveal by adding lip gloss and a holiday promo that has 15% off coupon for Cake Cosmetics, plus a Cleo phone “Charm”.

The price plans are as follows:
1-year: $249.95
2-year: $149.95
3-year: $99.95
Outright: $299.95
Special holiday promo for $49.95 (between November 7th – December 24th)

We took in into our own hands and compared these two very small compact flip phones. Overall very impressed with the feel of them both, the capabilities are great for the price point and call reception was good. In addition, the fashion certainly screams loud with both phones. The QWERTY keypad felt better on the Cleo than it did on the Reveal as the keys we spaced out better.

  1. Thank you for posting review and video of Samsung Cleo and LG Reveal. I finally bought the pink Cleo because of the keyboard – as you pointed out it has better spaced keys. I admit that I was attracted to the style and colour choices of these compact style phones designed for ladies. The LG Reveal Shimmer does have a sparkly headset and FM radio which I would have liked – neither available with the Samsung Cleo.

  2. Good review of both. I finally decided on the purple LG Reveal with a 3 year contract at $49.99 with Bell as I personally preferred the “feel” of the Reveal in my hands. The clarity of the inner screen is impressive, the outer screen is a tad bigger than on the Cleo & the menu is easy to use without needing to consult with the help menu or manual. Both are very similar but, I admit, the 2mp camera & purple being my fave colour, is what ultimately made me decide.

  4. Hi…dont ever purchase a cleo as they have poor quality, cheaply made..and after buying phones in three months they need repairs and upgrades! Samsung will do absolutely nothing to help only tell u that is what warranties r for …no one can make something that works good all the time..so ive been told by them. but actaully the LG phones do..work excellent and if u r to pruchae a new phone dont waste your money with samsung…the samsung cleo is a small little pink package of crap…if u like the color ..great because it will onlybe a fashion accessory..it does not function. shuts down..cant go on the internet..cant send pic messages as they would lead u to believe…u call to inquire about any of this..u will simply be pushed from one person to another and told send it in for repair..in the mean time u r without a phone or using an older model after u have paid for a new phone!! simply put samsung cleo is a waste of time..money and better spent on an LG phone that actually works.

  6. I bought the Cleo first because it came in blue and I thought it was so cute. I also wanted to get a phone with a qwerty keyboard to keep up with my kids through texts. I immediately had problems. It would connect to the internet then freeze and shut off. It was unable to download anythign ringtones, games etc. The format of the texts was cumbersome and it would lose texts. It would say I had 10 but you could only see two of them. I called Bell and of course got passed around and then after they tried everything, they said they would have to elevate the complaint to their next level and someone would get back to me……I could always send the phone in for repairs. After doign some research on the internet, I found that the Cleo’s seemed to be fraught with these type of issues and not just with Bell. After having it for only 5 days, I returned the phone and got an LG Reveal. I have had 4 previous LG phones and really like them. I had no problems with the Reveal. It instantly downloaded my ringtones and games. I also like the keyboard layout, the number pad is highlighted in purple. The keys are easier to use than the Cleo and the text messages stay in a conversation format so you can see everything you’ve said back and forth. Overall I love it….don’t waste your money or time on the Cleo!
