Hey, I've been due for an upgrade for a while now and am in my 3rd month of debating which phone to get. My only problem is that all the phones I want need a data plan or i just feel as though i'm being ripped off without. (499 without data, 199 with. What up with that!?!?) Anyway I just want to know if there is anyword on better data plans comming in the near future? Also, does anyone know how much data usage is used by watching flash vidoes, or watching streamed media via ustream or using a slingbox or hava?

I called rogers a while ago regarding my upgrade and they said the iphone was 199 without data, and the BB 8900 was 199 and the bold 249 with data. The bb plans look pretty good from what I've seen.

It depends on the phone you're using it for. It doesn't sound like you're talking about the iPhone with that kind of pricing (which btw, has brutal data consumption). Don't expect radically better data plans until late summer (or when Globalive sets up shop).

I currently use the Iphone, Blackberry 8900 and i have seen my Iphone has much more data consumption so i think you should go with a blackberry. We all know that Canadians get ripped off in the data and voice department on cellphones. So i suggest you try getting a device with wifi capabilities and take on 1gb or higher data plan.

I am definitely getting a device with wifi, anyone I have spoken with or seen online says 500mb should be more than enough. Was I misinformed? I surely don't want to go over on my data usage. I don't think I would be classified as a heavy user though so maybe I'd be ok

Thanks for the info guys. My pricing was jsut an example not specific to any phone but i'm sure we all get my point. Also, anyinfo about streamed media. I go to university and would liek to watch basketball and other shows via a web stream on the bus, hence using the slingbox device or online streaming. Any info on how much data that would use as i would nto be in wifi territory, and any devies besides nokia that support flash as the sites to watch stremed media use flash?

Well I'm on the $30 500MB Value Pack and I have 3 months UL data and last month I used 748MB of data, streaming on Flycast on my BB Bold, I had one day where I used 220MB just from streaming, and another day used about 140MB streaming.
I was glad I have UL data and gauge where my usage is at. I guess I would be classified as a heavy user lol

Thats what i'm concerned about. I go to school 3 day a week. And unfortunately its an hour and 20 min bus ride each way at 10 at night. its quite boring and a lonely ride, thus i want to be able to watch SOMETHING lol. so it may look like 1GB or larger plan may be the best choice?

well I doubt I'll use that much but for 5 more bucks I can get a 1gb i think so why not.

Holy smokes. That's huge... I'm waiting to see what my first Blackberry data usage bill will be like :) $30/6GB plan so don't really have much to worry, but curious to see where I stand in terms of use.
I was steady 1-1.5GB on my iPhone except for one month where I tallied a whooping 100mb

I checked around at data plans for rogers and saw how much cheaper data plans can be for blackberry's compared to the iphone that i was looking into, does anyone know why that is?

Do you have to stream, you can always load music and movies in the memory or a card

I do know that and i will. I want to be able to stream live sports. I don't want to miss march madness and other events. I'm a sports head. Live shows i would like but don;t stress over too much beacuse i just watch them online at home.

Clearly Rogers data plans are not for watching video like YouTube. I keep to WiFi for stuff like that.
