I just came across a deal for an HTC HD 7 but it's not T-Mobile. It says HTC HD7 Unlocked Windows T8282 HD 7 GSM 3G

First I'm guessing the T8282 won't work with Mobilicity.

Secondly, has there been any fix to the MMS issue with the T-Mobile HTC HD 7 on Mobilicity?

If your question is "does it have to be from T-Mobile" the answer is no, but it needs to support the north american AWS frequencies. Checking if it is the t-mobile version is the really easy and quick way of checking to see if it will work with mobilicity, as t-mobile us uses aws frequencies for their 3g network.

First, let me give you some background on me. I'm a business guy and travel alot to the U.S. for work and call the U.S. a lot. That's why I went with Mobilicity. I was tired of paying long distance plans for my home phone or using unreliable VOIP for long-distance. Calling cards aren't an option for me.

So after years of using a regular mobile from Telus which was crap in my condo, then a Blackberry from Rogers which was a Godsend (the best thing ever) and then an iPhone from Bell for work, I then got Mobilicity. I thought that I wanted to back a up-and-commer. Big mistake. I gave in and bought the HTC HD 7 from T-Mobile and it works on Mobilicity. Kinda.

Thing is, would I recommend it to a family member or friend? No. Here's why:

First, I dad a helluva time syncing the phone with Exchange. With Rogers Blackberry or Bell iPhone, it was seamless and easy. Never any issues. The configuration is supposed to be simple with the Windows 7 phones. It's NOT!!! I tried the following 100 times and finally it worked, I'm not sure what did it but it finally worked:

Username: email address
Password: password
Domain: leave blank
Server: red001.mail.microsoftonline.com
Check box for SSL

So Exchange syncing and Windows Live synced fine for about 5-6 weeks.

Then I travelled to the U.S. and few issues except that the T-Mobile signal is almost as bad as Mobilicity's. I had no issues with Live Mail or Exchange syncing during this first business trip but I have to tell you that auto sync uses a lot of data and my $100 pre-paid ran out after 3 days!

But that's not Mobilicity's fault I suppose.

Here's where my problem now lies, I just travelled to the U.S. again this past week and as soon as I got off the plane, first it takes forever for my phone to get a connection. I was the last out of 10 of us that got one. My collegues on Bell and Rogers all had one instantly, mine took about 10 minutes. Then I realized that my Exchange wasn't syncing and it hasn't for the last 5 days! There is no fix, I tried re-typing the steps above, re-set my phone, etc. NOthing. I don't know where to turn.

Also, the Mobilicity signal is and has been AWFUL since day one! And that's outdoors and indoors! I live in a condo right downtown and the I can't walk away from a certain spot near the window when indoors or I get disconnected. With Rogers wireless I could go to my condo's car garage to P3 (that's 3 floors below ground level) and I still got a signal! That stupid Rogers commercial is right. With Mobilicity I lose signal before my car even enters the garage, the garage concrete canopy blocks it I suppose.

Anywhere indoors, forget about Mobilicity working. So for a business guy like me, Mobilicity is crap! It's fine for school kids who shouldn't be on the mobile when at school, maybe this prevents that. But for a business guy like me who needs to take phone calls indoors, forget it!! I'm sooo mad at myself for giving Mobicity a chance. Good thing I'm not on contract. And NO, I'm not a Rogers employee. I honestly can't stand Rogers, I just cancelled my TV and Internet with them and went with a lower cost provider for internet and Netflix for TV.

Service between Rogers and Mobilicity is so different, it's night and day. Mobilicity signal is damn awful, they don't support the latest phones, T-Mobile also sucks. I think I'm going to give into Rogers again and pay a bit extra for that great signal. As for Telus, I used them 5 years ago and it was just as bad as Mobilicity from my building. Bell on the iPhone about a year ago was kinda crappy too, but better than Telus and Mobilicity. Nothing beats Rogers signal!

Sorry, I don't know who's fault it is, HTC HD7 or Mobilicity, but this syncing issue was the last straw!

I did get the phone working, it's partially human error and partially they make the set up not so easy. When using a phone that is not designated 100% for your mobile company, it's difficult unless you're technically savvy which I am not.

Thing is, if you're technically savvy - then feel free to get any device from T-Mobile for your Mobilicity phone. Otherwise, stick to the phones provided by the company so they can support you.

For me I love Mobilicity because of the unlimited outgoing and incoming calls from North America while I'm in Toronto. This is great for business.

Sure the signal still sucks while in my condo at times but otherwise dollar for dollar no one should ever use Rogers, Bell or Telus ever again in Canada. With Skype at home combined with this Mobilicity phone, I have no need whatsoever to limit myself.

In the end, the HTC HD 7 is better than the iPhone that i used for 6 months previously. It's fast, slick looking, easy to use and with Mobilicity's unlimited plans it's the best deal in Canada whether you're using it for personal or business. So go ahead, give the HTC HD 7 a try for Mobilicity. If you have issues simply message me and I'll try and help.

Still, if only I could get the data syncing consistently. It seems to sync whenever it feels like, and the data connection works when it feels like it.

Frustrating! Not sure what to do at this point...I go back and forth, don't want to give up on the HTC HD 7 for Mobilicity just yet, but it has not been a smooth experience to say the least.

Tony, it wont let me PM you, i have a few ?'s about HD7 in Canada, regarding how you got it activated. Im in USA, and recently sold one to someone in Canada, and they say it doesnt work. I did alot of research before I sold it, and I unlocked it for other GSM as well. Can anyone help me with this? I dont know if its a setting he needs to change, or if he just needs to talk to someone else at his cell store. ANY help would be greatly appreciated, I am more than happy to let him return it, but I know he really wanted to use it up there, and I had no doubts it would work. from what i've read I know it has something to do with AWS? But this is one of the newer HD7's from Tmobile USA, and because it was newer the Unlock code was even more expensive. ANY HELP is GREATLY APPRECIATED, just message me, or email to my username @ yahoo....thanks in advance!!!

I had a lot of issues getting mine to work, now it does somehow.

Have them go to 'email & accounts', add an account, and follow these instructions:

Username: email address
Password: password
Domain: leave blank
Server: red001.mail.microsoftonline.com
Check box for SSL

That should work for Mobilicity.

On a negative note, I'm having serious issues with the HTC HD 7 volume settings. HTC has no fix for it, neither does Microsoft.

It's either too loud when listening to music or you can't hear at all when trying to talk on the phone using ear phones. Without earphones it's not too bad, although still problematic compared to the iPhone which has excellent sound.

If HTC and Microsoft need to work out their relationship. I am ready to dump this phone and get a Blackberry very soon.

From the starting thread I came to know that your service provider is T-mobile, I have doubt does they provide group texting (http://grouptexting.com) , you came across a deal for an HTC HD 7 which is not for T-mobile. I too think that T8282 will not work with Mobilicity. Since you said that the phone is HTC HD7 Unlocked Windows T8282 HD 7 GSM 3G, I don’t think it will work with Mobilicity. Even though HTC HD7 is a good phone and is much better than apple i-phone, I suggest you to go for the mobile provided by T-mobile itself to enjoy all the services.

Tony, I think the last post is the most appropriate solution, I mean get a new phone. Personally I will suggest to get a HTC Panache from Mobilicity. Unlock it here (it costs $20): http://www.mobileincanada.com/How-To-Unlock-Your-Cellphone you get the code in around 10-15 minutes. You need to unlock it in order to use it with other providers. Unlocked phones for some reason are faster and work much better.

Regarding Outlook, no problem: HTC Sync http://www.htc.com/www/help/

I hope it helps. Cheers.

Well, there is no need that it should be from T-Mobile. The only criteria here is that it should be able to support the AWS frequencies of North America. In my opinion, you are better off with T-Mobile as there is an added security when it comes to frequency range.I took it ,because it has option for making conference call (http://www.onconference.com)'s . Which was much needed for me.

I'm having issues with my HTC HD 7 earphone jack and I doubt that it's a hardware issue. When plugged in I can get input but whoever is on the other end can't hear me. So the audio output settings are screwed up.

Thing is, it happens everytime I go the U.S and then come back to Canada. Something to do with T-Mobile making changes to the audio settings on the ROM.

The earphones work at times, but I have to fiddle with it quite a bit. HTC tech support is useless, my techie friends offered better assistance and suggestions than they did. One of them suggested I get a new ROM for my device.

Any suggestions?
