Right now I have the LG optimus quantum windows phone and overall its a good phone but I feel it isn't complete. I'm thinking of getting the desire z but have a few questions:

1. When u set an alarm and it goes off, do u have the option to have sound play along with the device vibrate?

2. When using headphones do u notice there is a static fuzzy noise?

3. Is there an LED notification light that flickers when u have a new notification like on the BlackBerry phones?

4. In regards to the loose hinge, when u have the qwerty keyboard out and u r typing do u ever notice the top screen wobbles or is loose? Or does it fit solid on the keyboard?

Honestly, the LG optimus quantum is a wicked phone for multimedia but lacks the essentials for a phone. Call quality isn't that great either. If u guys can help with these questions it'll help me decide whether to keep my LG or to go to HTC.

Thanks.

1. Yes, vibrate and sound and you can snooze or turn off.
2. No
3. Yes
4. The only time you will notice any play is when the phone is closed or if you are using the keyboard upside down (and how often is that)

Thanks for the response, Jim.

I'm not sure what to do, I've done some Google searches and found a lot of issues with this phone... anyone owners here have an input on the stability of this phone in regards to both hardware and software?

I'm thinking of picking up the BlackBerry Torch... not sure what to do.. really like the speed of the WP7 but I need a phone that has a good keyboard, I can use as a music player and not hear static, and has basics such as vibrate alerts and it would be nice to have an LED notification light

To the people that own a Desire Z: would you say the phone is buggy? Do you regret the purchase?

Yes.

I don't use headphones, so I cannot answer this for you.

3. Is there an LED notification light that flickers when u have a new notification like on the BlackBerry phones?

Yes.

4. In regards to the loose hinge, when u have the qwerty keyboard out and u r typing do u ever notice the top screen wobbles or is loose? Or does it fit solid on the keyboard?

It's solid. The hinge is not loose. The spring tension is just light to enable you to easily open and close the keyboard. If the spring tension were stronger, it would be more difficult to open and close the keyboard. The Nokia N97 for example has a strong spring. It makes opening and closing the keyboard more difficult as you have to know where to apply pressure. Also, the stronger spring makes the keyboard snap hard when it opens and closes unless you know where to place your fingers to cushion the impact of opening and closing.

Spring tension should not determine whether or not the parts wobble. Wobbling is generally caused by a poor fitting of the hinges to the two halves of the unit. My experience is that the Desire Z halves fit very well opened or closed.

I find this phone to be very stable. The only issues I have had was the first week or two was that it restarted on its own a few times. What I ended up doing is taking the battery out and cleaning the contacts and then putting the back in. Since then, it restarted by itself once than that was over a month ago.

Now, all phones will have a small portion of users report issues with it. It is not necessarily a widespread issue with all phones. It could simply be a defective unit. What sort of issues have you found with on your searches?

I have used two smartphones, the Desire Z and Nokia N97. The N97 is extremely buggy. The Desire Z is pretty stable. I ended up paying full price for the Desire Z because I ditched the N97 less than a year into my contract. I am very happy and feel the Desire Z is worth every penny.

From my Google searches I've found the following issues:

- messages being erased automatically
- the phone randomly shutting off and not restarting

those are the two major ones... im buying a new phone today and its between the new bold and this phone... the random shut offs have me leaning towards the bold... is the desire Z shut off issue that bad?

- messages being erased automatically

This has never happened to me.

- the phone randomly shutting off and not restarting

Happened once. The other times, it shut down and restarted.

It hasn't been that bad for me. I recall a few times it did a restart when I turned on the phone which just adds a minute to the startup sequence. I do not recall what I was doing the other times when it restarted. At least for me, it did not restart at a critical time like on a call or while playing a game. It happened more often the first couple of weeks and then rarely after that.
