View Full Version : Samsung Captivate No Voice Search

Noticed that the Rogers Samsung Captivate doesn't have voice search which is available in all other Android phones. I found voice call but thats very limited, and also tried to search for voice search in Android market but no avail.
Am I looking for voice search in the wrong place? Or is this just not available on the Rogers Samsung Captivate?

you can do it with a mix of add-on apps.
i know the first time i tried to install voice search app it would not let me till some other service was installed.
try looking into TTS Service Extended and then Voice search.

I dont think voice search is included in any non US 2.1 stock ROMs.

Yeah I already have TTS service extended but when I search video's on Android I always see the voice search option. Odd that they would remove it when every other phone has it.

I don't think any ROMs in Canada do.
It's to do with the bilingual requirement

Hmmm...thats pretty lame no voice search then. Too bad that only option is to flash a custom ROM to get that feature.
Anyone else notice that the Captivate already is running a few features from Android 2.2? Exchange Support, Mobile AP, Flash Support, etc.

That's incorrect. HTC Desire Z has this - and I think also all the other Canadian phones that are Froyo.

Hopefully in Froyo the voice search feature is included. All the vids I see on youtube are for the At&t captivate and they showcase the voice search functionality.

I would try downloading the actual voice apk separately and you can sideload it. It's enabled on the Rogers stock rom. Just google the instructions on google or look in youtube how to sideload.
The only concern I have is that google voice installs in the system directory so I'm not sure if you will need to root your phone. But give it a shot and see if it works.
Voice Search feature by Google is only available from 2.2 and up.

finally voice search on froyo 2.2 for captivate, just upgraded and there it is works flawlessly
