View Full Version : Why don’t all phones sync contacts and calendars with PCs?

All the phones I see seem to have contact and calendar capabilities but what is the point of keeping 2 or 3 versions of the same data? Who has time?

I am not a power cell phone user. I am doing great with the basic $15 plan with Fido and seldom go over the 50 minutes a month. However, I was an early user of Palm handhelds during my working years and was always carrying 2 devices around till I got my Motorola RAZR and I was finally able to synchronize all my contacts and appointments from MS Office to my phone. That was a huge leap forward. I still need the Palm Tx for e-mail when travelling. And I miss having notes etc. that the Tx provides when home.

I am eligible for a phone upgrade from Fido and would like to add a little functionality. I would love the latest Smartphone but cannot justify $150 plus $50 per month OR $500 plus to get one. However there do not seem to be many (any?) phones that enable sync with Office unless you go to the high end smartphone. This is a basic requirement IMO. Android, Windows and BB phones have apps for this what about Sybian, or the proprietary OSs of most lower end phones? Am I missing something? Is there a Fido phone that does this? LG, Samsung, SE? Upgrade to a smartphone. while your RAZR can do this you will have to at the sametime carrier around another phone for your email, why not sync your palm with your desktop and then forget about it.

Honestly the reason they won't put this feature on feature phones is because of the fact that blackberry user, droid, symbian etc will want to upgrade to get this feature just as you have to do if you want this feature. There are some dumb phones out there that do it. like the eurka and gravity touch from bell. I mean it's a long leap forward.

You can do it with phones, but not unless you want something really trashy and easily broken go with a smart phone. Just pay the price of $150 or whatever it is and then you can also ditch your palm as well, one device to rule them all.

Vivaz Pro should?

I went to the S-E site and it said this was not supported for the Vivaz Pro. If it was, I would grab the phone today... It has everything else I want.
