I live in Coquitlam, BC and my calling needs fit within Mobilicity's coverage map. I am planning to buy a Nexus One (when it is available) and a data stick for $99.

This is what I understand from their website.
* I can get an unlimited calling (in/out) while I am in their coverage area for $25.
* For additional $10/month, I get unlimited data @ 7.2 Mbps.
* Since I have a voice plan, I will get unlimited internet for the laptop @ $20/month.

So for $55/month, I will get unlimited voice/data for the mobile phone PLUS unlimited home internet. This seems too good to be true! :) Of course, I know that I have to spend $549+$99 for the hardware upfront.

Is this correct? Are there any negatives to this strategy? Your feedback would be most welcome.

Becareful and keep in your mind that pricing does not include limiting factors such as signals and devices.
I live physically in the Mobilicity network (GTA) and I don't get signals in the house.
Just remember when you get your plan that Data or phone service may not work or have many issues.
Technical support people are always blocked up and you're usually going to have to wait somewhere from 15-20 minutes to get help.

The only thing left to say is: The plan you have worked up is mathematically correct but Mobilicity ads taxes to their plans anywhere you buy it (including online) so it may rework itself to somewhere around 56-58 bucks.

Hope that helps.
GL.

EDIT: OH yeah! And the Nexus one has been unavailable for almost a month now. When they (maybe*) end up getting more they'll probably sell out just as fast. You'd be better off getting it from somewhere like eBay or your Local Kijiji or Craigslist ad.
*Maybe was used in reference to the fact that Mobilicity has many "sold out" phones that haven't been replaced in months.

...does anyone know if the nexus one will get the update to 2.3 gingerbread when it comes out?

Yes, the Nexus One is hooked up directly to Google's updating servers. The second the update is out its available for the N1.

Thanks, Savbers. Good points and it'll probably make sense to wait until this forum has some reviews on Mobilicity's Vancouver coverage and signal strength. Not getting data signals inside would be a disaster for me!

I'm not guaranteeing you won't be getting a signal but if you live to the 'outer ring' of the network you may not be getting a signal.
try finding a vancouver mobilicity tower map or call in asking about how good your signals will be.
though the gta data seems messed up in the sense of when you lose the signal you cant connect back to 3G.

Phantom, I got mobilicity last week but I don't think I've seen any speeds even close to 7.2Mbps. It does the job for my needs tho. There is also a promotion that includes North America calling and data for $40 which is going on until the end of the year if I am not mistaken. Hope everything works out for you. The Nexus One is a great phone!

Just got Telus Desire ($0+$100 gift card) from BB. Great phone but 3G speeds around 1-1.5 Mbps. WiFi hits 6-8 Mbps. Paying $50 months for 500MB and My 5.

Think I'll return this and get N1 from Mobilicity. The $40 plan is great and I've heard that the signal strength is good.

The N1 can only be ordered online or can you buy it from a shop?
